What font for non-fiction? (1 Viewer)

After sending in three sample chapters, I have received a request from a publisher to see my memoir manuscript.

I asked the publisher in a subsequent email what font they preferred and was told it didn't matter a long as it was legible.

What is the industry standard?

I doubt there is a standard for submissions. When they publish your book they will reformat it with the font, chapter headings, and margins they choose.
ETA: it just needs to be legible - and not weird.

Any straightforward serif font is usually acceptable but as Taylor pointed out Times New Roman 12 seems to be the sweet spot for most. Courier is good for getting the right word count per line but in the age of e-readers, that doesn't really matter so much.
