Speckled starling hunts the ground
yellow beak bobbing up and down
looking for twigs and bits of leaves
to share an untidy nest

Mother warms four pale blue eggs
marauder steals them from their bed
robin red breast shares the elm
sounding the raiders alarm

The clan has many mouths to feed
ancestral way old masters teach
teenagers gather to watch the show
and rally murders’ cheer

Below pine cones white tails hide
cautiously spying the foes blindside
opossum jolted from her nap
yawns resuming her dream

And black widow vies a victory lap
the silent screams of honey ants
silken coats for her guests
the table has been set

Mother nature is savage... Beneath the idyllic scene lurks death...love the end line, it sounds so final and I guess it is ;)

Alicia Apple

The sun shined brightly through the blinds
mothers’ key lime arrives on time
brother sighs and vies a slice

Alicia turns a page

Asking father why words rhyme
if sky flys, do seagulls cry
can we climb through windows of time

mother rolls her eyes

Do mourning doves wake at noon
and will balloons reach the moon
must we eat ice cream with a spoon

important things to know

Alicia never out of breath
held her book stood up and read
bats sleep standing in their bed

smile from across the room

....to be continued

LOL... fabulous, you nailed this... ;)

How did I miss this one! It's brilliant and so funny. :) You've got Alicia all buttoned up so don't stop now, I'm hungry for more.

Naturally everyone wants to try
as long as the task won’t make them cry
personally I’ve heard them all deny
with oratorical excuses

Gardening snakes sounds absurd
rippling waves of laughing curves
imposing ghosts, unmedicinal herbs
all make for good stories

Some of us are mesmerized
so many of us agonize
non of it is standardized
all of us should be canonized

Today, we near the end of the month
my brain is weary as you may thunk
and heavier than an elephants trunk
counting the days til Friday!

Amen to that! You've got a gift for these humorous poems. :)

I don’t like rare beef
I do appreciate a rare sight
don’t like rare lamb but
admire a rare quality
not one for rare salmon though
I treasure rare art
a rare gem
a rare species
an experience
opportunity
individuals
no one in existence duplicated
identical is not exact
imagine that
like a jewel
multi faceted, multi hued
organic
perfectly imperfect
perfectly rare
and yet, we share...

The first 2 lines of this poem are so cool...I liked the entire poem, but the first two lines are such a cool concept...

Displayed are poems #25 & #30 for continuity.
Both were inspired by jenthepen’s character Alicia Apple from the poem ‘Why’.

The Curious Miss Apple

The sun shined brightly through the blinds
Mother’s key lime arrives on time
Brother sighs and vies a slice

Alicia turns the page

Asking father why words rhyme
if sky flys, do seagulls cry
can we climb through windows of time

Mother rolls her eyes

Do mourning doves wake at noon
and will balloons reach the moon
must we eat ice cream with a spoon

important things to know

Alicia never out of breath
held her book stood up and said
bats sleep standing in their beds

smile from across the room

Pirouette on tiptoe
she took a bow, so low
did you know, she said slow

Baleen’s have two blowholes

Spinning a curtsey she bumped a chair
wobbled off balance unlike Fred Astaire
the pie took flight flour dusted the air

the black dog now turned white

Oh no!! bounced across tiled floors
Mother envisioned extra chores
Father’s eye sparkled with much adore

while Brother squeaked with laughter

Having cleaned up a spectacular mess
Alicia wondered why she must change her dress
And why lily powder smells any less

than marigolds or heather
