I can relate to your sister. In my teenage years I
also hated my curls and envied anyone with long
straight hair, especially the guys back in those
days, some had such gorgeous hair and I was
stuck with a wavy mop-top!

4pm in the car
mask on
parked in handicap
looking at the gym
looking, looking, looking
shade my eyes from the sun
reviewing the day
deliveries, drop offs, errands
energy depleted
but with rigorous vigor
I tell myself
get up
get out
go in
as I write these words
sitting, sitting, sitting

will she or won’t she

Skip the gym !!... Go home, Tuesday! Pour a glass of wine, eat some Doritos, and write another poem.... your day sounds exhausting... ;)

Feed the Heart

An eye to eye thank you with the busboy
clearing dishes from your table
grateful acknowledgement to busy waitresses
refilling cups again and again

silent smiles go far with the late arrival
of green beans and almonds rather than
asparagus and chives ordered earlier

and thanks to the laundromat attendant
sweeping floors, wiping blue detergent
dots off machine lids,
opens a valve to pure good feeling and
feeds the heart

One hour
Sunday mornings
sipping coffee on the couch
peaceful
until
the first beer
hello stress
hello tension
run away
work all day
find somewhere else to be
your
special needs grandson
befriends his phone
alone in his room
better
than being
with grandpa

This is such a poignant poem...it starts out with nice imagery and vibe, but the tension builds through the poem...

perched on birdbath rim
starling preens flight feathers
joyous Spring reflection

lovely, the word "joyous" describes this Spring scene... ;)

:) I like this, there is a lot to think about, in just a few words...

Speckled starling hunts the ground
yellow beak bobbing up and down
looking for twigs and bits of leaves
to share an untidy nest

Mother warms four pale blue eggs
marauder steals them from their bed
robin red breast shares the elm
sounding the raiders alarm

The clan has many mouths to feed
ancestral way old masters teach
teenagers gather to watch the show
and rally murders’ cheer

Below pine cones white tails hide
cautiously spying the foes blindside
opossum jolted from her nap
yawns resuming her dream

And black widow vies a victory lap
the silent screams of honey ants
silken coats for her guests
the table has been set

title and character based on the poem
’Why’ by jenthepen

Alicia Apple

The sun shined brightly through the blinds
mothers’ key lime arrives on time
brother sighs and vies a slice

Alicia turns a page

Asking father why words rhyme
if sky flys, do seagulls cry
can we climb through windows of time

mother rolls her eyes

Do mourning doves wake at noon
and will balloons reach the moon
must we eat ice cream with a spoon

important things to know

Alicia never out of breath
held her book stood up and read
bats sleep standing in their bed

smile from across the room

....to be continued
