The Adventure of English - The Biography of a Language by Melvyn Bragg.

This is somewhat of a surprising book, I was on my way home from work, waiting for my train at Waterloo and wandered into W H Smith's to see what I could find. I bought this and The Da Vinci Code to read at home.

This is a fascinating book about the English language, it's roots, it's impact and how it has developed into the language billions know and understand today.

From 500AD to 2000 it really does interest you and isn't written like a boring lecture.

It is very well written, it gives alot more depth than any other book I have ead on the subject, but then most of them bored me to tears, this is the first that hasn't.
