Any one read Powder by Kevin Sampson?

I picked this up today because I liked the cover (I know, never judge a book...blah blah blah). It's daunting to me now - 502 pages of small type. I'm not a huge fan of long books and so it might be sitting pretty and unread on my shelf for a while, but I'd like to hear any opinions on it all the same...

Ah well, I'll give the film a miss then. :) Not based on the book I don't think because the book's about a band called The Grams.

Also, I accidentially posted this topic in the wrong board - should have gone in books and authors but I had both that and Rec Reading open. So mods, feel free to move!
