I'm starting the New Year off with a publication.
I will have a new poem out in the in the up coming October Hill Magazine/ winter issue: January 15, 2021. A quarterly poetry magazine. Further information below if you care to submit to the Magazine.

The poem is: "Salmon in the Edo River."

Salmon in the Edo River

Just below the flow’s surface
a salmon nibbles at the moon’s
silver disk, a seashell-thin

reflection. Expanding annuli
sampled, ripples expand circles
on the slow river; they entreat

dusk, shadows fade, offer night sky.
Apt geometry in relationship
grows into swirled-whisper

Salmon touches moon center;
they merge into one another.
Spawn is carried away, a raft

ringlet’s intentions. The edge rolls
out into watery distance — its lip
turns under to touch the sky.

death — amid, outward growth;
where shadowed-shades
meet the daylight — tranquil dawn.

your poetry to October Hill Magazine for consideration.

We are pleased to inform you that we have accepted "Salmon in Edo River"
for publication in our 2020 Winter Issue. Congratulations!
The issue will be published on January 15, 2021.

At one time I corresponded with some Japanese artists and poets,
including the photographer, Katsuya Oki of Japan.
He sent me several photograph of the Edo river
when the salmon were running up the river from the ocean.
This ekphrastic poem was inspired by one of his photographs.
