This is a “regular” month, therefore, entrants must post their own entries this month.

Discussion regarding any entry, or any challenge related issues, may take place in either Bistro during any phase of the challenge. Kindly be mindful that secure entries are only discussed in the Secure Bistro to preserve the first rights of entrants.

Please remember that in submitting an entry you are obligated to cast at least one vote in the poll once it is opened. Failure to do so will result in your entry being disqualified.

The prompt for this month's challenge, as chosen by TuesdayEve and Firemajic is Walking on Eggshells

You are free to interpret the prompt in any way you wish, though of course, site rules apply. If you are unsure of the challenge rules please read the 'stickies' at the top of the board. Please note that all entries are eligible to receive critique in the voting thread.

The inclusion of explanatory text or links of any kind within an entrant's challenge entry is prohibited and will be immediately removed upon discovery. As always, only one entry per member is permitted.

Entrants must post their own entries in this thread, or if you desire to protect first rights, please post your entry in the secure thread, and then post a link to it here in the public thread. Failure to do so runs the risk of your entry being disqualified, so if you require assistance with the task, please PM me, and I will gladly help you.

If your entry contains strong language or mature content, please include a disclaimer in your title.

Kindly make sure your entry is properly formatted and error free before you submit. You have a ten minute grace period to edit your piece, but anything edited after that will likely see your entry excluded from the challenge.

Do not post comments in this thread. Any discussion related to the challenge can take place in the Bards’ Bistro for entries on the public board, and the Secure Bards’ Bistro for entries on the secure board.

Everyone may now use the "Like" function whenever they so choose.

This challenge will close on the 15th of June at 7pm EST.

Eggshells Always Crack

No matter how they fall
under light footed smiles and lowered eyes
dodging martini mood swings
and sideways lies
landing is the hard part

The egg cracked this morning
between a cordial nod and buttered toast
shattered white bits between my toes
and the cat took off ‘round the corner

Barking dogs couldn’t stop the fight
broken promises and defiance ignite
a furied father’s untempered right
milk puddles the table

Invisible, silent good byes
hurriedly reach the door
shadowed by relief once more
eggshells beneath my feet

Broken eggshells
bore the story
about the milestones.

Toughest milestone :
visibly - invisible
turned visibly - unacceptable
and there followed his journey
of endurance as
every internal cell
diverted energy
to the aims : survival and growth.
The lonely plant,
in the big desert
where seeds from nowhere,
popped shoots
through hidden layers
and the greenery flourished.
The milestone "Noticeability" achieved.

He looked at meadows
aged like desert
and made glaciers melt,
for rivers to originate
and flow there.
The milestone "Wider Acceptability" achieved.

His journey continues
like milestones for many.

These broken eggshells
carry an avatar's story,
born from invisibility.

You miss so much of me
with your prickly coat of thorns.
All the pristine moments
of careful communication
create a tidy version
of who we might have been.

I sense your fear of me,
watching my love for your man.
Tight smiles grip buds of fun
and squeeze a cold suspicion
from the pores of proffered moments
of warm camaraderie.

A shared love should be no threat
to one, adored as you are.
Yet, the bitter eggshells crush
beneath our faltering feet
as, together, we miss so much
of who we might have been.

Tread Carefully
Insecurity entangled in a fragile mind
His ego swells while her sense of self dies
Tensions rise as she faces double binds
Set up to fail again
she falls short in his eyes

Meek and powerless in a frail shell
Her hope dissolves as his anger climbs
Whispered apologies spill from trembling lips
Suddenly running crimson as
his hands return to his sides

Cross his fingers and hope to lie
A veil of deceit crumbling before her feet
Illusions of a joyful life begin to waver
Trail of blood pools
from disobeying so many rules

Regardless of her efforts she’s unable to avoid his temper any longer
A defense woven from words he used against her
On her knees for the final time and courage boiling over
His masquerade unravels quickly as
a porcelain doll begins to shatter
