Hey, I'm Zeitgeist.

Long-time forum whore here, but this is my first time on a writing forum (something I'm doing in hopes that I will manage to get my act together in the writing department). It looks like a nice, active community... I'm glad to be here :).

Introduction threads are so boring.

"I must find a truth that is true for me... the idea for which I can live or die."
- Soren Kierkegaard

"Human beings, who are almost unique in having the ability to learn from the experience of others, are also remarkable for their apparent disinclination to do so. "
- Douglas Adams

"Those who dream by day are cognizant of many things which escape those who dream only by night."
- Edgar Allen Poe

"Question with boldness even the existence of a God; because, if there be one, he must more approve of the homage of reason than that of blindfolded fear."
- Thomas Jefferson

"I believe that individuals can make a difference in society. Since periods of change such as the present one come so rarely in human history, it is up to each of us to make the best use of our time to help create a happier world."

"If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion."
- The Dalai Lama

"I cannot teach you violence, as I do not myself believe in it. I can only teach you not to bow your heads before any one even at the cost of your life."
- Mahatma Gandhi

"I do nothing but go about persuading you all, old and young alike, not to take thought for your persons or your properties, but and chiefly to care about the greatest improvement of the soul. I tell you that virtue is not given by money, but that from virtue comes money and every other good of man, public as well as private. This is my teaching, and if this is the doctrine which corrupts the youth, I am a mischievous person."
- Socrates

"Reality is that which, when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away."
- Philip K. Dick

"Never think that war, no matter how necessary, nor how justified, is not a crime."
- Ernest Hemingway

"I have never let my schooling interfere with my education."
- Mark Twain

"They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety."
- Benjamin Franklin

"Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming 'WOW! What a ride!'"
- Unknown

"Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover."
- Mark Twain

"I would rather have a mind opened by wonder than one closed by belief."
- Gerry Spence

"Go confidently in the direction of your dreams."
- Henry David Thoreau

"When people talk, listen completely. Most people never listen."
- Ernest Hemingway

I know where my towel is.

If I could do anything, I would make myself a centimeter high and explore a large tree from that perspective, facilitated by the fact that I have also switched gravity to emanate from only the tree itself.

I love art but I am no visual artist.

I can read much better than I can write.

I started a forest fire when I was younger.

Somehow, I managed to put it out - all twenty feet of flaming underbrush. I was mildly burned in a lot of places, my clothes were scorched, it took over an hour, and all of the hair on my hands and legs was singed off.

It started up again after I left and proceeded to burn down several acres of forest.

I would consider this more of a tragedy if it was not slated to be cleared for construction in the following months.

I listen to far more obscure electronica than any of you have ever heard of.

I prefer my imagination to reality, yet I remain rooted in the latter.

I am an eighteen year-old college student in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

Bestowed so strongly with the gift of perspective, I often have no frame of reference.

I am both more and less than meets the eye.

My best friend is a woman, and I love her more than anything.

I am a Dayvan Cowboy.

Zeitgeist is not my normal online name.

I am a senior staff member on an extremely large, respected gaming forum with nearly 2.3 million posts, of which more than 13,000 are mine.

Philosophy is my strong point.

It is very likely that I will be poor for my entire life.

I am perpetually nervous.

I am perpetually confident.

No-one has ever told me whether or not it's a good thing that I am easily inspired.

Passion is my best ally and worst enemy.

I am not of your stock.

Grades and school have always been effortlessly easy for me. I am embarrassed by this, because my friends and peers get worse marks and work much harder. To compensate, I slack off, but as I still do well, this only exacerbates things.

Long ago, I abandoned the distinction of being a person who uses big words in favor of being a more normal, acceptable person.

I have been trying desperately to reverse the effects of that decision for a good while now.

My existence makes absolutely no sense to me.

Neither does yours.

That's the part that I understand.

I fear that in my effort to be different and write these dozens of one-line nothings, I have accomplished something entirely more negative than I intended.

I am posting it anyway.
