A very young (only 16) and shy housemaid was hired by a painter’s family. The beginning is intriguing, with anticipation of discovering some interesting characters and fascinating plots, I kept reading and finished the book in 2 days.
The secret attraction between the master and the maid was finally highlighted by him putting a pearl earring on her earlobe, before he painted her.
Although nicely crafted, there is no depth in any of the characters.
I would think a straightforward historical biography of the painter would satisfy me better.
I like to rate it 3.5 / 5.
