I'm currently in the process of writing a series but when it comes to writing exposition, I feel stuck. It always seems to go off track and slow down the tension in the story or dialogue. How do I fix this?

Perhaps rather than jump straight into your writing you might try laying out a detailed plot first. IMO exposition is best handled in small doses on a need-to-know basis. With a plot you can lay out the big picture, then figure out where the details should fit in.
