Anonymous September Poetry Challenge “No”

As previously discussed, the challenge will follow the old format.

Henceforth, we will be alternating between “regular” challenges during which members will post their own entries, and anonymous challenges during which entries will be sent to me and I will post them.

The “Like” function may now be utilized at any time.

Discussion regarding any entry, or any challenge related issues, may take place at any time in either Bistro. Kindly be mindful that secure entries are only discussed in the Secure Bistro to preserve the first rights of entrants.

Once the entry phase has been officially closed, and the voting process has begun, critique for public entries may be posted in the voting thread itself, while critique for secure entries must be posted in a dedicated thread in the challenge workshop to preserve the first rights of entrants.

This is an anonymous month, therefore, entrants must submit their entries to me.*

Please remember that in submitting an entry you are obligated to cast at least one vote in the poll. Failure to do so will result in your entry being disqualified. The names of entrants will be revealed after our winner has been announced, if you do not desire to participate in the reveal, please inform me in your submission PM.

The prompt for this month's anonymous challenge as chosen by apple is: NO

*Your entry must be submitted anonymously and therefore should sent via conversation to rcallaci, so that I may post it for you. Please be sure to indicate in your conversation (formally known as a PM) on which board you prefer your work posted, PUBLIC or SECURE https://www.writingforums.com/threads/anonymous-october-challenge-no.195386/
. I am responsible for linking all entries posted on the secure board to public board.

Reminder: The names of entrants will be revealed after our winner has been announced, if you do not desire to participate in the reveal, please inform me in your submission conversation.

VERY IMPORTANT Kindly make sure your entry is properly formatted and error free before you conversation it to me as you will be unable to edit your work once I have posted it. If your work requires a disclaimer, please inform me in your submission conversation.

Do not post comments in this thread. Any discussion related to the challenge can take place in the
Bards’ Bistro for entries on the public board, and the Secure Bards’ Bistro for entries on the secure board.

This Challenge will close the 15th of September at 7pm EST

No Fuss No Muss

It was the perfect dress
no collar
no sleeves
no ruffles
no zest
black rayon linen polyester
blend to impress
slow rise
fine thighs
crossed by request
curve lines
fire the flame
no coy acquiesce
slim side zipper
waist high
glides abreast
one solitary rose
embroidered against
a sumptuous bump
sexy silk stitch hardpressed
tames pit bulls and sharks
the little black dress

Negative Impulse

I never ever will say no again
to your frozen kisses and cold embrace-
a blazing wild-fire burns through
my corrupted body mind and spirit
and only you can contain it.

no, is a word that never ever will touch my lips
as you stick a needle through my anemic heart-
the shattered embers of lost dreams welcome’s
the prick of misery and death

no, not never forever will I ever betray you
your serpentine malice chills my crippled bones-
leaving me susceptible to your sadistic charms
and dark desires

I can never not say
no to you
as we both dive into that deep well
filled with the stink of our sins-
together we’ll limp and crawl along on the
road to perdition with you, my beloved beast,
laughing whooping and hollering on that inglorious
road to hell

saying NO never never not forever
is not an option

No Strings Attached

When master tweaked her crosspiece,
puppet gave a frigid wave
while counting down perennial days
till freedom.

When he flicked his wrist
to make her twist cavorting dances,
she kicked her can-can
farther down the road.

When he pulled her strings
to make her sing to his doleful tune
she cut the cord -
departed from her erstwhile lord
and master.

Our Sharp Edges Collide

I laid down beside you trying to get right with myself,
found no peace but I dug up a lot of doubt
Never understood why this life seems so hollow,
or how I’m meant to divide my future from our past now
I find comfort in our bond
but I expect this lust to depart eventually
I know I should think different
but it’s all I’ve ever seen and how things always end

The nights we spent in bed felt like heaven,
yet nothing could silence the hell in our heads
I thought of you as all I prayed for,
until my insecurity caught the best of me
It opened my eyes but I’d sooner be blind
than accept the lifelessness in a love from two people who’re weak
Unable to fill proper roles for each other
when we’ve yet to mend the wounds inside ourselves

If only I’d poured my heart out to you sooner,
as opposed to slamming your door for the final time
I’ve done my best not to live in regret
but now I see so many signs I wish I didn’t miss
The passing of blame and days without discussion
should’ve let me know, you’d never loved me in return
They told me I could never change a man without desire,
but I let the heaviness in my chest change me

In every instance, your body said yes
and your words reaffirmed
So, I excused your distance and empty promises,
when your actions towards me screamed

The muted masses
with downcast eyes
hoisted the consent's flag.
The "Big No" was carved on a heavy stone.
"He", who said that
was chained to it,
thrown into the sea.
Centuries later
it was pulled back
for the monument,
pointing to "That History".

Imagining Yes

She cuts herself with imagination
where everything beyond is yes:
a banquet of gloss and shine.
Caged by fear and barbs,
reckless thoughts walk on tip-toe
when she sanctions possibilities.
They shatter through her skull to bleed flowers,
toenail polish and sugar
and ends to her beginnings.

Then shadow word pinches, blocks her light,
disciplines with slaps to her hand.
She puts her glasses back on.
That sentence stands unadorned,
plain and sharp,
punctuated with a period.
