Right now the TV is full of doom and gloom drama. From pedophilia to mass murder. Has anyone else decided to do something uplifting and possibly with humor? It may well be fiddling while the Earth burns but the cloud of negativity is so palpable that I cannot let it go without trying to shine a light.
What are you doing to cheer up the place?

News is always full of doom and gloom. Been that way my entire aware lifetime. :)

However, I have humor in everything I write, no matter how dire the situation for the characters might be. I can't help it.

My #1 project at the moment is writing a romantic comedy with @vranger so I disappear into my fictional characters every evening. Some of the research has had me in fits of laughter. For example, I was researching all the different types of bikini and Brazilian wax options. I instinctively crossed my legs in horror as the descriptions made my eyes water and mind boggle! My character went for a Brazilian South ...

I also spend a fair amount of time outside either at the beach or in the garden and write poetry as I ponder the wonders of nature. Not necessarily good poetry but the stuff I enjoy .)

BTW: I rarely watch the news as it is too depressing. I only watch Netflix offerings or films/series. Pref feel-good stuff as I have mental health/anxiety issues thanks to the 'C' word.

So what are you doing, Bazz

Right now, I'm organizing a pet show for next year's Summer Fete.
Joke: last years went well until the crocodile ate the best in show...
Bumtish!

Writing tales of hope and science fiction. What's getting in the way is my parent's project which is to earn some extra money to live better and have a better quality of life. Though I long to be home since I am on a mountain away from my books I consult to write stories (planning stories which could be useful for dictation). Not to mention my mail I hope arrives soon that delivers books close to my house. The ambition is going to take a while to make a reality. I think all that I do takes time, money, and days of waiting. My latest project is so ambitious I plan to read part of a book that has 500 pages of information about science. Getting the science right in this field is important. It is also cutting edge.

Reminds me of one morning about 20 years ago in Bangkok when apparently the connection to the USA was down and I had the usually busy Internet cafe all to myself. 😁
"20 Years ago in Bangkok" sounds like a title, even if there already was "One Night in Bangkok". ;-)

What about your writing projects, Bazz?
I wrote a flash for the LM, called Against The Tide, it started me off into an experiment. So far I have changed some of the characters and filled in a bit of background. This might well be my 'breakthrough. New title, Bad to the Bone.
My other novel is slowly evolving as I watch the news. Lovely cuddly Boris is breaking the Uk like he breaks everything else.
I have notes for two sci fi things which I will eventually try to get into a magazine.
My climate change book is taking my time at the moment. I'm rattling bushes for a cover quote. I'm also collating a list of key search words. Some people have kindly gifted me some pictures for the related article I'm writing for Permaculture magazine. I'm hoping to get something in the local newspaper.
I have a friend who is organizing a book launch party in an independent coffee shop, public welcome.
That's a thought, could I do a book launch thread/party in the WF Tavern?

Sorry, but I have to differ, I think he is fulfilling his remit admirably, the rich are getting richer, the poor are getting nothing, and now we are outside the EU nobody is monitoring it. We also have a party in opposition that is supposed to be socialist, is led by a knight of the realm, and has rejected the 'One man one vote' concept. How does that work ?

The rich have no loyalty to anything but money, they are more than happy to break up the UK as long as it is profitable.
What we have now is just the pebbles before the landslide. To come...
High interest rates causing a housing crisis
Balance of payments running away and devaluing the £
Poor Xmas spending causing high street carnage
Severe damage to our supply chains possibly introducing rationing of some items
A spike in suicides
When Northern Ireland secedes, probably followed by Scotland the economy will grind to a temporary halt.
How are you off for bog roll?

Oh, and Sir Keir earned his knighthood for doing some very difficult and sensitive work at the public prosecution office, his origins are distinctly lower middle class. Unlike Tony Benn who inherited his peerage from his father.
One man one vote stacked the party with thousands who had no links to the party, don't know how many were Tory/Ukip fifth columnists. I know of one.
Buckle up, we are in for a wild ride.
