About Times and Ages? (1 Viewer)

I'm writing a story and just put the age of the protagonist down as 47 and it got me thinking, what is the general rule for such things?

Should I put 47 or forty seven? Should I put 9 o'clock or nine o'clock?

Here is EVERYTHING you wanted to know about numbers in writing. :) I typically write out everything but dates, times, and currency using a currency symbol. The linked page suggests using numerals for numbers above 100. However, I typically only do that if the number is more complicated. For example I'll write out "five hundred", but not "one thousand, eight hundred and thirty-two".
