A Confederacy of Dunces- Historical and Social Context (1 Viewer)

Hey guys,

I've recently read the 1981 Pulitzer Prize Winning Novel, A Confederacy of Dunces. I am supposed to do a report on it, and one of the essay questions assigned was to "Outline the Historical and Social Context of the Story." I'm not very sure exactly what is expected of this, and I can't find anything about this online. I'm just looking for some sort of lead to work off of, NOT AN ENTIRE ESSAY.

I understand the major themes quite well, Modern Slavery, The "Lousy" American Work Ethic, Fate, or the fact that everybody is dumb and ignorant. Would any of these apply?
