Liar (previously The Poet)

The Poet, is a liar &
a hypocrite who
twists the scene to
fit his needs, who
portrays the speaker
in sympathetic light.
Who turns those he
knows into archetypes
and tropes. Who
traps emotion in
rhyme and metre.

The Poet, is a liar &
a hypocrite who
seeks out-
immediate praise
and broods for days,
until his words mean
nothing, to him.
Catharsis cheap
a reward paid out in
pithy one liners.

The Poet, is a liar &

only has time
for his own work.
He only reads for
moods and tones to
steal. Devices to
embellish his writing-
make it what it is not.
To make him what
he is not,

Omg...this made me feel so sad. I cringed everytime I read the word liar. In my imagination, poets are these deeply sensitive creatures who pour out their tortured souls on paper to get relief (I was always fascinated by them-).
I wrote a "poem" a couple weeks ago about a similar theme(poems/poetry)-the complete opposite of this. I'm so disappointed... although your poem is written very well. :0)

I quite like this. I'm wondering if the title could be The Liar with the first stanza beginning like the others.
You keep it flowing with just enough internal rhyme to nudge it along, without it feeling forced.

I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to get back to you, thank you so much for taking the time to read and leave some comments, I wouldn’t get too down on my concept of the poet, the reason that it’s The rather than A Poet, is that it’s more the idea of myself as a poet rather than a sweeping generalisation about all poets.
