    That seems intentionally ambiguous. The way to write that is, “There weren’t as many good restaurants on the way...”

    No, surely 'there were less good restaurants on the way' means there were plenty of them, but they were not as good. What you are saying is that there were fewer good restaurants. Conclusion, yes ppsage, it is possible to misconstrue.

    Fewer applies to quantity of restaurants, but 'less good' is applied to their quality.

    I actually copy-pasted it from Yelp, so I don't think it is intentionally ambiguous. People do write this way, unfortunately.

    "10 items or less" me+ magic marker - the only reason i have never done it is because the signs hang from the ceiling. Which reminds me, at my local golf driving range, there was a notice on the ball dispensing machine which said:

    If this machine does not dispense the balls kindly
    inform a member of staff

    I asked them what I should do if it dispensed them angrily...
    A man in possession of a wooden spoon must be in want of a pot to stir.
