    How bright are bats?

We have an outside light by the back door which is movement operated and it kept coming on. There didn't seem to be anything, but then we realised it was a bat. Now here's the thing; is it just chance, or maybe the house is warm and draws insects, or is it that the bat has discovered what happens and does it to attract insects. It has to fly into a covered alleyway, not far, but far enough to seem strange, and it is persistently doing it.

    Perhaps it was this one:

    In the shadowed places
    where only bats fly free
    a moth of ill content
    lacking a leading light
    flutters without purpose.
    Sounded out by an aerobatic
    pipistrelle, it soon finds
    a resting place, though not
the one it might have chosen.
