Is there an easy fiction writing outline method?

Is there a recommended method that makes your writing easier?

"Save the Cat Writes a Novel" will not give you a complete outline, in my opinion, but if your story idea doesn't even fill out Save the Cat, it is probably too thin.

John Truby's "Anatomy of Story" is excellent, but it is not easy, at all.

You can also look up "Anatomy of Chaos" on YouTube. Look up John Truby on YouTube's "Film Courage."

I'm sure there's an app for that. But why would you want to shortcut the process? The joy of writing is writing. I am really only happy when I am writing.

These are my favorites. Even if you don't buy "the idea," its author has some pretty good FilmCourage interviews where he goes through it.

You might also like Brandon Sanderson's talks on outlining. He's posting new content on YouTube right now from his writing course at BSU. "Plotting" is one of the first couple episodes. He has a very moderate method of outlining pretty complicated novels.

Anything that's easy isn't worth doing. If it doesn't take personal investment it will never be satisfying. If you can't understand that then you will never be a writer.

Reading about writing has never helped to get me writing. The only way to get writing is to... er actually to...
