Your absolutely wright art is not a destructive force and it enhances many aspects of cultural life....poetry has been around for years and it has influenced so much but one cannot recall a time when poetry has had its day in the sun compared to all the other art forms out there...

    I cannot disagree with that
She lost herself in the trees,
    among the ever-changing leaves.
She wept beneath the wild sky
as stars told stories of ancient times.
The flowers grew toward her light,
the river called her name at night.
She could not live an ordinary life,
with the mysteries of the universe
    hidden in her eyes....

Yep, certainly not in modern times anyways. Sadly.
There is no life I know

Poets often write of life in the times; if such observations are not seen as laudatory by the prevailing authorities - Off with his head!

Yes you can, like Darren just said, the Koran.

Somethings you simply have to accept you are going to miss out on, unless you are willing to learn Arabic to the extent of becoming fluent. Even then you would still be missing out on Japanese poetry which we can never get a full hold of without learning Japanese, it's full of subtle homonyms which give it multiple meanings that compliment each other. Pick your battles.
