Lightbulb Plan for increasing sales during SLOW SEASONS

To maximize your book marketing efforts, I recommend monitoring your sales data throughout the year to identify sales trends. If you keep track of this data from year to year, you’ll probably notice a general pattern of times when your book sales are typically strong and other times when they are not. Once you’ve identified this pattern, you can plan additional marketing efforts to boost sales during the slow season. For example, I’ve discovered that my nonfiction books typically have their strongest sales at the beginning of the year, during the summer months, and around the Christmas holidays. However, my books usually hit a sales drought between Labor Day and Thanksgiving. To address this situation, I made two changes this fall. First, I stepped up the number of speaking gigs that I give to local author groups and at writing conferences. (currently have a 12 speeches scheduled between now & Thanksgiving) Second, I committed myself to sharing helpful tips from my nonfiction books on social media once a week (like this marketing tip). Prior to this year, I only shared tips randomly. Hopefully, these tactics will improve my sales during this period. If not, I’ll try something different next fall.

It's a good plan! I have to admit I'm not as rigid on keeping tabs. I know I have sales on a new release, when I do takeover days, Just before Xmas but not after. Most times I just go for a new release, as that is usually another good point for my backlist getting sales too.

I think you should add that the genre should be researched before being launched so the seasons can be catered for. Knowing why some seasons are great and some are poor may well show that the seasons may not even be a problem because you could be punting to people who are cash strapped in your slow periods?
