    Book page counts in 2019

Just had a chat with a friend who says that itís getting harder to get a book published any longer than 175 pp. I donít know if thatís the exact number or just a ballpark but is there substance to this contention?

Reason given: dramatically lower attention spans.

Not at all. In fact, the longer the work, the more revenue for a publisher. They're more likely to not want single short stories. Saying that you do get some publishers (mostly small ones) who won't publish, say, over 90k (roughly the standard size for a novel). But that's their choice. My last one published via a publisher was 120k.

Uh, I think your friend might not know what he/she is talking about. That's a completely blanket statement covering an ENORMOUS amount of work that so much of what is being discussed actively disproves it. I do not think it is true at all.

I just finished, "The Angel's Game," by Carlos Ruiz Zafon, and it was a fairly lengthy read. People may only be able to read a couple of chapters at a time, but they do still read.
Sometimes, I wrestle with my demons. Other times, we just snuggle.
