    Quartet of new mentors

    All,

I'm pleased to announce an influx of new mentors. TL Murphy and RHPeat will be working on the poetry side of things, while Arachne and luckyscars are going to be more active on the prose side of things.

Remember that you can ask a mentor any time you have a question or need writing advice!

Congratulations, I suppose. I've never understood what mentors do, exactly, even when I was a mod here. But carry on.

I try to mentor the new writers on all aspects of publishing & writing.
I am not a moderator or a referee.
Just a semi-qualified schmuck who offers feedback.

It also means that I am obligated to read all the fiction posted in the forum.

The idea was to have a positive group. Mods give positive advice of course, but they also slap a lot of wrists if people don't behave. Mentors are purely nice guys, people learn better from positive feedback than negative. Actually I think it has lightened up the whole forum and mods slap a lot less wrists than they used to back in the day, long time since I have seen a raging argument and a page full of expletives in oversize capitals, not that they were allowed to go on long, but they did happen.

Mentors tend to get picked for what they already do, so there is not always an obvious change in behaviour, but like Ralph says it is more ordered so everything gets covered, well that's the idea

Essentially, as a mentor, my job is to help new writers avoid the thousands [and thousands] of mistakes that I have made.
There is nothing productive in reinventing the wheel.
