Thread: So you need a book cover...

I make my own covers, tho I haved used a source for one or two.

Both covers looked professionally done, but neither really grabbed me. That font is the same as used by the New Yorker magazine, and I find that mag boooooring, so I may be influenced in my opinion.

Haha, I love the New Yorker but I honestly didn't notice that.

If you had to pick one?

Still on my phone and can't see the benefit of a high res image on a tiny device, but your mileage may vary.

I had my covers done by CaliGraphics. Cal does both ebooks and print editions. Reasonable prices, too.

Astroannie is right, test your cover down to 180x180pxl.
The second one was better than the first, but I would not have clicked on it.
But fans of the new yorker may.

If you ask if there’s a ‘market’ for it, yes there is, but you have to be able to deliver vector graphics as a minimum. It’s not difficult via Abobe suite.

Common knowledge is that authors who do their own covers fail. Who made that knowledge common? Designers, of course.

Most homemade covers leave much to be desired. Some are spectacular.

I deliberately opted to design my own covers because I want all my books to have a common look, even if the subjects differ. Much as Thompson worked with Scarfe, and the the imagery became synonymous, I want the same thing with my artist.

I'm not seeing anything. No images. No PDF link.

I'd offer my observations on the designs, if only I could see them.

I think they got fucked off into the ether; don’t know why but I guess there was a reason. They didn’t have any porn or weird shit when I looked at them (mores the pity).

On another note, WF could benefit from introducing a cover workshop, in my opinion.
