    *29* grandma

    a camphor and aniseed cloud
    is all I remember
of a life that covered ninety years
    a legacy captured
    by a four-year-old nose
    and measured by the warmth
    it lights still.

For me it's my grandmother's voice, but yeah, connected with this piece.
You can never hate something so thoroughly as that which destroys what you love, and who is more guilty of this crime than the stranger who was once a lover?

Even if it's only that one memory, it will be enough to evoke so much more in you, lovely little poem.

I never visualize my GrandMam, without her holding that beautiful leather bound book of poetry, that she read to me... Your poem is very... misty, an old but still precious fragrance...and lovely....
She lost herself in the trees,
    among the ever-changing leaves.
She wept beneath the wild sky
as stars told stories of ancient times.
The flowers grew toward her light,
the river called her name at night.
She could not live an ordinary life,
with the mysteries of the universe
    hidden in her eyes....

love leaves a memory no one can steal....

Both my mother and my grandma had their family late in their lives and I was the youngest of five so my memory of her was fleeting. I would have loved to have memories of a proper relationship like you and I'm glad those memories are so happy for you, Jul.
