Unlikely Magazine is a new literary publication looking for unorthodox poetry and prose.
From now until May 25th, we will be accepting submissions of fiction, poetry, and creative nonfiction. Writers whose work is featured will receive a free print copy of the magazine when the first issue is published. We will keep in touch with our contributors and possibly ask them to submit to future issues in exchange for cash. Unfortunately, we cannot afford to pay contributors for the first issue.
Unlikely is looking for work that would be considered 'outside of the box'; our mission is to publish writing that forces readers to think. Pieces that break the rules of form (purposefully and to some effect), defy genre classification or present new and beautiful ways of looking at things will be our main focus. That being said, there are some restrictions:
  • Poetry should be under 500 words long.
  • Fiction should be from 500 to 3000 words long.
  • Nonfiction should be from 500 to 1500 words long.

We will still consider work that does not fit within these parameters, but it may be less likely to be accepted.
Please send your work to [email protected]. You'll need to include your name,* location (city, state), and the genre of your piece, as well as any email address at which you would like us to contact you.
  • File types accepted are TXT, RTF, DOC and DOCX, but links to Google Docs or other web content are OK too.
  • You may send in as many pieces as you like, but only at most one piece per issue per author will be published.
  • If your work is accepted, we will contact you asking for confirmation and a short bio. If you do not respond by May 25th, we will be unable to publish your work.
