Time For Change !!! January, 2018

Hello, dedicated Pippers and Poets! Welcome to the Pip challenge, January, 2018, Happy New Year! The Pip challenge is undergoing major reconstruction to meet the changing needs of our poets. There will be confusion, chaos and consternation and probably.... some cussing, but please be patient, when the dust settles, we will have a challenge that excites! Inspires! A challenge that will help you meet your goals for 2018..

There will no longer be a judging center, everything will take place here, in the Pip challenge thread.
There will no longer be judges, there will be mentors offering critique. EVERYONE is WELCOME to offer feedback and critique.

    ***Entering the Pip Challenge***

*Each poet entering the Pip Challenge will open their OWN THREAD, here in the Purple Pip *challenge board.
*In the title put your name, and month and year, for example, my thread would look like this:

Firemajic , Pip challenge January 2018

    *post your poem

*You have a 10 min. grace period to edit your poem

*All critique for your poem will happen there.

*Poets will have until the 10th of each month to post their poem.

*Your poem will be open for critique immediately after you post.

*Poets will have until the 24th to edit and rewrite. Do NOT edit your original Poem.

*On the 25th a poll will open, and votes will be cast for the MOST IMPROVED POEM. Everyone can vote.
    Mentors will make final comments.

The winner for the most improved will receive the Pip badge.

January's challenge: Poet's choice with the focus on Alliteration.
    ************************************************** **************************
    There will be a workshop in group YPS, and if you do not have a Pip badge pinned to your profile... I STRONGLY suggest that you participate. { NOTE MY CLEVER USE OF ALLITERATION!}
    ************************************************** **********************
If you ENTER the Pip challenge, I ENCOURAGE you to offer critique to your fellow contestants. Learning to analyze and critique poetry are vital tools that I want you to acquire.
    ************************************************** *************************
Anyone who is not a member of the private group The Young Poets Society, PM me for an invitation.
    ************************************************** ************************
Any questions? Post them in the Pip discussion thread.

What are you waiting for? Get BUSY ... Have fun!

    The Beauty of Alliteration

Alliteration: The repetition of the same letter or sound at the beginning of adjacent or closely connected words... A good point to remember is that alliteration does not DEPEND on letters, but SOUND.

Why alliterate? alliteration, when used with skill produces melodic sounds, musical, lyrical...

    Alliteration is catchy! For example:

    Krispy Kreme [ my favorite]
    Bed Bath & Beyond
    Chuckee Cheese's

    Alliteration makes names memorable:
    Ronald Reagan
    Jesse Jackson
    Marilyn Monroe
    Mickey Mouse
    Porky Pig

How does it sound in poetry?

The fair breeze blew, the white foam flew
    the furrow followed free
    ;
We were the first that ever burst
    into that silent sea.

From the Rime of the Ancient Mariner, by Samuel T. Coleridge

Some might say to wait for the 10th, but this is about improving my poem.

This portion of the Pip challenge is now CLOSED. Everyone is welcome to participate in the critiquing process, please address issues such as rhythm, rhyme, mood, message, SPaG, and alliteration...

Thank to the poets who were brave enough to participate , and shame on the one's who did not! But, that's cool... I know where to find PiP's pointy stick.... and I know where to find the procrastinators.....
