    The Poetic & Clarity

    Clarity and the poetic are they exclusive? Are either exclusionary in any way outwardly or directly toward each other? No I don't think so. I see them as two different distinctions that exist within the greater quantum of the poem's integrity as the "form/content = reader," and that is the actual poem. This includes all of the poem's poetic devices when speaking of "the poetic". While "clarity" in understanding emotion, deals with feeling the emotional within the poem, as a whole, by another inside themselves.

    Intent which we speak about is how the artist directs that course of action in the poem toward the viewer, listener, reader in some way. So the artist writes a poem creating it's own reality as a posture to actual human experience, so that the other (viewer, listener, reader) can assume the feelings within the presentation of the poem. This understanding of emotion, doesn't have to have meaning in the poem; it only has to have meaning in the "other"as the observer having the experience themselves.

    This happens in any form of art, and it is how epiphany works. That's where clarity actually takes place — in the "other." The poem or art-form only provides the information for the internal epiphany to create that clarity. This is why I say they are relative to one another. One is not the other as clarity and the poetic being the same thing. They aren't at all. For they really don't exist in the same place as inside the poem, but they do work together as that impetus of knowing inside the "other" person.

    Archie says "the poem should not mean, but be." this in a small way is like saying "show don't tell." But it actually says far more, for it's inclusive of the poem's power to evoke another into their "direct feelings". Now that is "being." That's sharing your human experience with another. And if it is shared; it has "clarity." The writer has distanced the gap between writer and the other. So sound alone can be something that creates clarity; as music has its clarity. Poetry is music. It's music is part of it's ability to clarify intent in the direction the artist is suggesting we take as the poetic journey.

    So keep in mind that poems like all art are an emotional state of consciousness, both in creation and observance. We observe with all our senses. So some art uses a single sense; others arts use more than one sense. Part of poetry is sound that might even be illogical at first glance. But the sound carries a kind of clarity nonetheless that is logical as music which empowers the words used. All of this is emotional content and form, that enters the "other" within the "others" mixing bowl of provoked thought; This information arrives as a kind of meaning that belongs to this understanding of that artistic pure emotion. And the "other" has an Ahh-Ha moment. That's the epiphany of the poem taking place in the "other." The artist has set them up for that awareness; now the poem is part of their reality. They now exist within the poem as part of their own reality. That's transcendence of consciousness as revelation, or epiphany.

    This is what makes poetry artistic. It's not easy to plant a feeling inside another unless they accept it. Clarity helps them accept the poem as the real to them in some way. So it doesn't have to be logical, it only has to show the means toward actual human experience that is their own feeling. So epiphany takes place in the "other" not the poem; Climax and Closure take place in the poem to create epiphany in the "other". Epiphany is the "others" realization as the meaningful. Good poems don't have meaning, they instill meaning in others. They allow the "other" to have an experience without telling or explaining it. It's more of an observance on the part of the "other" in participation. So there are devices at work in the poem: (metaphor music & form/content), to set off the observer's awareness. and I might suggest, that they are part of the poem's clarity that happens inside the "other" for the "others" epiphany in the moment.

    So now let's talk further about the clarity side and why it is relative. The poetic is more confined to the poem as its form/content. It is made up of the poem's given information to the reader. That a line of thought (intent) in the poem carries the suggestive throughout the complete poem, but it may not be logical at all, for many times it uses devices: figures of speech and suggestion to induce the reader into feeling something. The reader becomes invoked or evoked by the poem's images and actions. Clarity is connected to the epiphany as something relative to the poetic nature of the poem's presentation. So it's rhymes and other sound devices can also produce clarity right along with the actions/verbs, story line and concrete images used in the poem. These sensations accumulate in the "other" and help them form that awareness for epiphany that allows the "other" to form something meaningful internally in them. it could be in the mind, but it more than likely starts in the gut or bowels or maybe the heart and the lungs as breath for the poem effects all these organs internally as feelings.
