"It's" or "its"

As far as I'm aware, it's generally "it's" but can very much depend on whatever the situation is but it's entirely up to yourself to decide.

It is when it is an abbreviation of it is, it is an apostrophe which is in place of a missing letter. Its spelling is without the apostrophe when its function is to show possession, then it is a complete word in itself, like 'his'; we wouldn't write "hi's function", and we don't write "it's function".

The easy way to remember It's vs Its is just to remember that it is backwards.
It is the only time that you don't use the 's for the possessive term.
When I type it, I literally think to myself "Do it wrong."

Not the only time; 'His' 'Hers' 'Yours'. Perhaps I complicated things a bit, I was having fun using 'it is' and 'it's' in the explanation. When I type it I mentally substitute 'it is' and see if it works, if it does I put in the apostrophe for the missing letter, sometimes they can be close.

'His' 'Hers' 'Yours' are not conjunctions. They are whole words.
But yes, I do see the pattern.
