And it was a blast. Oldest living trees up there ( bristle cone pine), below ten I think. One in our group was 76; onetime Olympic road-rider for Lebanon. That was before I was born. The last day he wiped out at high speed- didn't make the turn/went up the hillside cut out, and... didn't get a scratch. Just dusted himself off. 1st day I was kicking his ass. 2nd day we were tied. 3rd day he was pulling away. This was climbing. I couldn't keep up on the downhill.

I envy you your trip. I'm sure you'll have a great time.

This is what I tell my family, "Don't let the bastards get you...fear, anxiety & death. Keep moving. Make 'em work to grab your ass."

Why are you going to Mississippi? After being out here to beautiful Colorado? I lived in miserable TN and was sailing down the muddy Mississippi. Hot and miserable this time of year.

Miss-read I think, Nellie "... at oldest golf club West of Mississippi.", not in Mississipi. Cave of the winds is in Colorado, West from Mississipi, looking at the itinary I reckon she is still in Colorado, but they have a well old club in Mississipi.

    Life's Harmonies

Let no man pray that he know not sorrow,
let no soul ask to be free from pain,
for the gall of today is the sweet of tomorrow,
and the moment's loss is the lifetime's gain.

Through want of a thing does its worth redouble,
through hunger's pangs does the feast content,
and only the heart that has harbored trouble,
can fully rejoice when joy is sent.

Let no man shrink from bitter tonics
of grief, and yearning, and need, and strife,
for the rarest cords in the soul's harmonies,
are found in the minor strains of life.

I love the above poem so much, and there is a beautiful, understated wisdom in the message... It reminds me of two of WF's finest, and two of my fabulous friends, Olly Buckle and MidnightPoet, so I dedicate this poem to you both... love you to bits

    Death and Life

T'was in the graveyard's gruesome gloom
    that May and I were mated;
We sneaked inside and on a tomb
    our love was consummated.
It's quite all right, no doubt we'll wed,
    our sin will go unchidden...
Ah! Sweeter than the nuptial bed
    are ecstasies forbidden.

And as I held my sweetheart close,
    and she was softly sighing,
I could not help but think of those
    in peace below us lying.
Poor folks! No disrespect we meant,
    and beg you'll be forgiving:
We hope the dead will not resent
    the rapture of the living.

And when in death, I, too, shall lie,
and lost to those who love me,
I wish two sweethearts roving by
will plight their troth above me.
Oh do not think that I will grieve
to hear the vows they're voicing,
and if their love new life conceive,
    'tis I will be rejoicing.
