Never mind the simile, no ‘as’, or ‘like’, go for the metaphor, and start with ‘I am ...’ nice and definite.


Some seem familiar, I can’t directly place them, but I bet someone used them somewhere,
“I am the quiet voice in the teeth of the storm”
Some are sympathetic,
“I am the voice of the lost soul in the deepest dungeon”
Some are heroic
“I am the storm wave pouring over ramparts”
Some are unexplained
“I am the third shout in the night”

They stir the emotions and raise the hackles, just what writers need to describe larger than life characters; so what are you?
