Exclamation Gods in the Machine (Interest Check)

To celebrate my return to WF I have decided to launch a new game in the theme of soft-scifi/dystopia set in near future, on the brink of some major biotic/genetic technological advances, and focusing on a small, elite group of government agents "gifted" with natural (almost mystical) abilities.

For reference, think "Ghost in the Shell" meets "X-Men"

This game will contain adult themes, language, and graphic violence (all within the rules of WF)

Only a small group will be needed initially but I will be able to expand the concept as needed as we gain players.

Please respond here or shoot me a PM if you are interested or have any questions.

    UPDATE:

    Player Name: (Your username)
Character Name: (Name of your character)
Code Name: (Can be a pseudonym or alias, may or may not relate to ability)
Specialization: (What your character does best, usually relating to combat. Ex. Sniper, hand-hand combat specialist, demolitions, ect)
Abilities: (What kind of “gift” your character has. Keep it simple, keep it specific)
Augmentations: (if your character has any biotic augmentations, such as hearing implants, retina information feeds, ect)
Physical Description: (what your character looks like, this can include mode of dress if they wear something specific)
Psyche Profile: (a general assessment of your characters personality, please keep it in neutral third person)
History: (An overview of your characters history, including major life events)
DEM Status: (Leave blank, this will be determined by the GM)

Guidelines and Expectations: Please take a look at the General RPG Guide pinned to the RPG sub-forum as many of those rules apply. Any rules listed here however, supersede them.

    1. The GM’s word is law. When running this I am making decisions based on what’s best for the RP over all, not to cater to what specific players want. If you have a suggestion, by all means, bring it up. If it works within the frame of the game I will work it in, but don’t get butt-hurt if I reject something or ask for something to be changed to better suit the RP.
    2. Post often. I don’t expect a post every day; I know that real life comes first and that things happen. That said more than a few days shouldn’t go by without a post from you once it is your turn. If something comes up and you can’t post, a simple message saying so along with an estimate for when you should be able to resume would be greatly appreciated. Keep in mind that your character may be moved by the GM to allow other players to continue on, especially if you’re gone for more than a week, and that if it happens to often you may be asked to step out entirely. If the GM cannot get ahold of you your charcter will be "dropped" (read: brutally murdered in game).
    3. Make those posts worth our time. I’m not asking for a short story’s worth of writing in a single post here; a paragraph or two will do fine as long as it addresses the actions and words of other characters and allows for response from them.
    4. Keep your filthy mitts off of other peoples characters! (GM not included) You control your character and ONLY your character. If the other player didn’t include an action or dialogue in their post, your character shouldn’t be responding to it. Do not put words in their mouths or move them to suit your needs. If they didn’t write it, their character didn’t do it.
    5. Don’t play god and manipulate the world itself. This is the GM’s job. Your posts are limited to what your character does and says, excluding nameless/faceless NPC’s that are not essential to the plot (such as a waitress, taxi-driver, or pedestrian).

Example: John paused as the waitress for their table came back with their drinks, offering him a smile as she placed a glass in front of each of them before retreating back into the kitchen. Once she was safely out of earshot he resumed speaking. “Do you really think he’ll take a shot at the vice-president in the middle of a heavily guarded press briefing?”

This is okay. The waitress only serves as a background for the setting and isn’t directly involved with the plot or change it in any major way, nor does she have active dialogue or a name. What wouldn’t be okay is something like this:

John paused as the waitress for their table came back with their drinks, offering him a smile before suddenly dropping the drink and ripping open her shirt to reveal the explosives strapped to her chest. “Mr. Kunami sends his regards!” She shrieked while a chorus of alarmed yells and screams filled the diner.

This is NOT okay. The waitress is no longer a passive background character. She has active dialogue and is acting in a way to drastically alter the setting. This type of event/character should only ever be introduced by the GM unless worked out in advance at their discretion. Otherwise, plot-essential NPC’s will always be labeled with an * and played by the GM.

    Character Name: Holden Caufield
    Code Name: Deafmute
Specialization:Holden is a skilled hacker, a genius level intellect paired with an obsession for revenge has lead him to be capable of cracking codes and creating complicated computer viruses in minutes a tool he uses to infiltrate and bring down what he considers to be corrupt corporations, with his coup de grace being to appear in front of his primary target and use his touch powers to render them a gibbering mess.

Abilities: Tactile Neuro-manipulation- If Holden touches the skin of another person he can cause immediate brain damage, currently this manifests as violent convulsions that will lead to permanent brain damage if he holds on long enough.

Augmentations: Cybernetic neural interface for web connection.

Physical Description: Holden is a 22 year old pale white male. Holden is a very normal young man. He is neither ugly nor is considered very handsome. His jet black hair is poorly maintained with his bangs hanging loosely over his face obscuring his eyes unless he pulls it back. His eyes however are striking, piercing even, a deep hazel hue.

Psyche Profile: Holden isn't what most would consider to be stable. He is fanatical in his hatred towards the "phonies" of society. He is diagnosed antisocial, with little to no sympathy for any person who gets in the way of what he considers justice. Save when it comes to children. Holden is extremely protective of young people, feeling they are the last truly innocent members of this world.

History: Holden's parents were extremely wealthy. The only child of a senator and a fortune 500 CEO, you would assume he had lead a charmed life. You would be wrong. At 5 years old his parents entered him into a secret program designed to boost intelligence in young people. Believing this would lead their child to become something they could be proud of they blindly gave him to the program. 10 years of rigorous mental training that bordered on abuse combined with dangerous drug trials and cybernetic enhancements yielded a true success of the program. Holden came out of the program with a genius IQ, but it wasn't a happy one. He was outraged at being used as a lab rat and he was outraged at the society that had allowed this sort of activity to go on. Holden decided that this world was corrupt and worthless and needed to be changed. He receded into the underworld of the internet mastering the arts of Hacking with reckless speed. By the age of 18 he was a legend among within the hacking communities, having singlehandedly bankrupted his fathers company. He didn't shed a tear when the man who he had once called his father committed suicide by jumping off the company highrise. It was at 20 that his world was really turned upside down however. Walking down a crowded street Holden found a small girl alone, the girl appeared lost and crying. Holden tried to comfort the small girl but as he touched her hand the girl went into violent convulsions. Desperately, Holden tried everything to ease the girls seizures. It was too late that he realized he was the cause. The girl suffered permanent brain damage never speaking or seeming to acknowledge any other person ever again. This was the last crack that shattered what was left of Holden's faltering grasp on sanity. Holden dawned a new identity he was now a Deaf-mute. "No plea for forgiveness will be heard, no word of mercy shall be spoken. This world will pay for its corruption."

    Deaf-mute, two things:

For spcialization I'd like for you to narrow it down a bit more. By his profile I'd expect him to be primarily a hacker, able to use that ability for infiltration along with his ability for defensive/offensive purposes. The hand-to-hand combat feels a bit much in addition to what he is already.

In the ability segment I'd like an explanation on how his "gift" works.

    Sound good?

Fair enough, I meant he was good at close combat because basically he can touch you and send you into fits as opposed to say that he was some sort of ninja lol. I will clean it up to make it more clear. I left the ability vague, because I intent to have it develop over time but I will clarify this as well in the post.

    Hows that?

    Better

I had assumed it was what you meant, but needed the clarfication just in case.

One more question though. Is his ability inherent or the result of that "special program"? I got the impression that it just manifested later in life, which works just fine.

No it is the result of the program, I just like that better than having them appear out of no where.
