    Indispensable Discussion (Apply Here!)

    ---

    The Gist:

In the near future, you happen to be an employee working for one of several US corporations. Though you're not listed with of their assets, you are certainly a very valuable and often utilized one. “Indispensable employees” do all their less-than-legal business, and get paid under the table for services rendered. Unfortunately for us, those services are quite dangerous, which means you’re most likely doing it for another reason. The corporations provide their “Indispensables” with the equipment that is necessary for their jobs, though most of us prefer to keep our own supplies ready and waiting. More specialized tools are also supplied by the various corporations, who allow you to use their experimental items.

    Now for the corporations.

    The Corporations:

    Strychnine Industries

A leader in the field of chemical components, Strychnine provides chemicals for products from soap to tear gas. Their research laboratories are some of the most advanced in the world, and they have a quiet funding from the military in the interest of creating new chemical weapons but at the same time have a minimal say in how things are run, considered a pet project due to a lack of any true successes. They have a positive outwards image due to their public goods, but only insiders know about their other products. The Indispensables that work for them often use chemicals to subdue or kill their targets or give themselves an effective boost to help in their mission. Unfortunately for Strychnine, some of their ability-boosting chemicals are also addicting, and can render their Indispensables… unusable.

    Rheotron Research Inc.

An armament manufacturer with close ties to the military, Rheotron has been developing weaponry since the US was founded. Their preferred weapons are designed for infantry use rather than vehicular mounting. Their Indispensables often use lethal weaponry and prefer direct, bloody approaches, leaving no explanation and a large footprint. Due to this, they have a large public presence in rumor and hearsay. However, no jobs have ever been officially linked to Rheotron due to the permanent kill order and a massive monetary bounty for anyone that reveals the company’s secrets. Being a weapons manufacturer, there is a great deal of public dissent, with the head being Betatron, a militant group that directly opposes the corporation through bombings, bringing information to light, and even assassination. There is also a decent amount of dissent within the government who believe that, even with their military ties, the company has too much power. However, due to their ties to the higher-ups in the military, these complaints are kept silent.

    Manson Materials

A direct competitor to Rheotron, Manson is a newer company compared to its older relative. Created after a split in their parent company, this corporation has focused on the more defensive end of warfare, manufacturing advanced armor and nonlethal weapons to fulfill their user’s needs. Their connection to the government is a closely guarded secret, and they have almost no public presence. Due to their high-tech research, however, they keep a fair amount of sway in politics. Their Indispensables are often involved in quieter approaches, though their ability to stand their ground in a firefight often puts them in shootouts that are quickly explained away.

    Apollo Information Management (AIM)

This company is a collector of information, from the passwords of average citizens to classified government documents. Their command structure is intricately tied to the government while still allowing relative safety should their existence be discovered, allowing information collection and operations requiring plausible deniability to be passed to AIM operatives. As a result of the symbiotic relationship with the government, this corporation has enormous sway over the system. The new head of the company has recently decided to open a subdivision dedicated to selling information to paying companies for additional profit. As a new corporation in the public markets, corporate espionage is the overarching goal of the Indispensables employed by the corporation. Fittingly for a corporation that doesn’t exist, the Indispensables that work for AIM are ghosts, leaving no evidence that there was even a job. Indispensables are aided in their active afterlife with gear focused around stealth and discreet detection.

    Brutus

Unlike the rest of the corporations on this list, this is not a corporation at all. Brutus is the assumed name of the man that runs the organization, and each Indispensable takes the name when on his or her job after which they disappear. Brutus agents only take assassination missions, from external organizations or wealthy individuals. Even more strangely, none have seen Brutus, even the agents that receive his missions. Sometimes missions are handed out from Brutus to his most effective agents, though never directly, each a seemingly random target. There’s undoubtedly a larger game afoot, and while no one can see the picture, many can see the frame. There was an attempted coup several years ago, where one of Brutus’ most powerful agents declared him dead and took control and a pseudonym, but he was quickly and painfully dealt with. “Booth” remains a quadriplegic in a mental asylum, a terrified expression permanently pasted upon his face, and his screams muffled by the padded cell that surrounds him. The only thing known about the organization is its existence and a single body recovered from a job. The agent had nothing on him, including clothing which had been replaced with a strange full-body chameleon skin painting. The camouflage was so effective that the body was only discovered after someone kicked it and saw the bloody wound in the Indispensable’s back. Further inspection by police and eventually government officials noted that the high-tech painting somehow managed perfect camouflage in any environment and was fire, water, and shock (both electrically and physically) resistant while protecting the tissue inside, putting the technology of it ahead of anything produced by the others on the list.

    Expectations:

Expectation 1: Know Foxee’s Ten RPG Commandments: Admittedly, I will be breaking a few of the rules. As it would be difficult to write an RPG about assassins without killing humans, Rule 5 is mostly out the window. However, the part about inter-character fighting should be heeded. If you want your character to fight someone else’s, contact them via PM and decide what’s going to happen.Otherwise, maybe give them a passing cameo in your story, or a tiny fight that changes neither their nor your story too much. Interactions have been made OK. Go beat each other up!

Expectation 2: Decently-Sized Posts: Sorry, Foxee, I’ll be throwing out Rule 2 here. I have a particular abhorrence for RPGs where there are over 100 replies, but the story hasn't moved far from the beginning. I consider a respectably-sized post to be around 500 words, which may sound steep but is long enough to keep the story chugging along at a fair pace. Don’t stray too far above or below this mark (100-200 word difference):We don’t want a novel, nor do we want a diary entry. Think of it as a baby chapter.Word count requirement has been removed.

Expectation 3: Separation of Church and State: IC stuff goes in the “RPG” section, OOC stuff goes in the “Discussion” section. Don’t put anything other than story bits in RPG, to prevent unnecessary crowding. The RPG section should come out a bit after the Discussion section, with a bit of story to create the world.

Expectation 4: Da Rules: Hopefully, everyone has read the rules of the forum. Follow them. This should be super redundant, but sometimes things fly by. If you haven’t, go read them. If you are really that lazy, here’s an abbreviated version: Don’t be a jerk, use common sense, and just have some fun.

Expectation 5: Some more rules I’ll find in a box: I’ll be adding any if I feel there should be any added (or if I just get sniffy).

    From Me to You:

Congratulations! You’ve successfully slogged through my overlong introduction! For all my strict structuring and whatnot, I do just want to have a good time writing with some peers. My schedule is pretty busy, but I'll make time to write as much as I can. Sign up if it feels like your cup of tea, and even if it doesn’t you might want to try it out anyway. Good luck, and good writing!

    Name: Jason Oswald

    Age: 55

    Gender: Male
    Corporation: AIM
Appearance: Thin with graying black hair, Oswald is a handsome man that is almost unremarkable in every way. He stands at 5’11” and is just fit enough to be unnoticed. He is almost always wearing a grey suit, tie, and one-way sunglasses. His movements are always smooth, even when unplanned or interrupted.
Personality: Though he has the ability to speak, Oswald is nearly mute while working. He prefers to work alone and has trouble working in any group operation, be it a leader or lesser operative, due to his quieter, more independent nature. Strangely, Oswald is unwilling to kill anyone, even if it would make his planning far easier. As such he takes no assassination missions, but does make such missions possible with his actions. So far, none of his expertly crafted plans have encountered difficulties where the situation would require murder, so his morals remain untested.
Gear/Weapons: As he is so opposed to murder, Oswald carries no primarily lethal weapons. He is an expert in hand-to-hand combat, with crippling rather than lethal blows. To aid him in close combat he carries two batons, electrified and in quick-release sheaths on his wrists. He has almost no long range capability, instead opting to close the distance with a reinforced formal suit that enhances his speed and climbing ability. He also carries a standard AIM toolkit, with sonic disruptors, smoke grenades, tear gas, and other, mostly non-lethal, gear.
Backstory: Oswald’s background is mostly unknown, even to his employers. Appearing out of the blue, Oswald came to AIM’s main office and evaded every countermeasure they had to get to the board of executives. He walked in on a meeting, incapacitated their guards, and asked for a job. He was promptly accepted and stationed as an information collector, a job in which he excelled. He spent several years at AIM’s main office, living in the quarters provided for employees and never going farther than walking distance from the main office. He has disappeared three times, each time for several days. AIM has no surveillance of him after leaving the main office and, when questioned (even under torture), he has simply offered a doctor’s trip as an excuse. After thorough searching of his terminal, AIM allowed him to return to (carefully observed) work. After almost a decade working at AIM, Oswald was transferred AIM’s newly opened subdivision due to his elaborate entrance into the company under the code name "Oz". Though he doesn’t play well with others, the company utilizes him often, allowing him free reign over his mission details.

    Name:Jason Crane
    Age:32
    Gender:male
    Corporation:Strychnine Industries
Appearance:The word handsome does not do justice to describe Jason. Women everywhere struggle to hide their blushing smiles as he walks by. His blond hair and short trimmed stubble are never out of place. His blue eyes capture any person he looks at, legs wobble and sighs escape the lips of each girl that sees his smile.
Personality: Jason is a sociopath. In spite of his warm smiles, and caring eyes, Jason has never felt anything for the countless women he has seduced. He treats each encounter as a game. A game he always wins. Narcissistic, and solely self interested, Jason has never batted an eyelash as he takes a life. He prefers to be close, the look of pain on the human face has always fascinated him, as the one thing he has never been able to do is cry.
Gear/Weapons:Jason carries a briefcase everywhere he goes. In his Armani suit most take it as just for carrying paperwork, but inside is dozens of vials filled with the latest in Strychnine chemical warfare. He is usually able to charm himself into close range on a target, before sliding a syringe into his unsuspecting victims neck. He prefers not to engage in open combat, but he is trained in a variety of martial arts and small arms combat, in case someone is not tricked by his pretty face.
Backstory: Jason's father was Carl Crane. A world famous actor loved by millions. The party lifestyle of a millionaire playboy didn't leave a lot of room for family. The few times his father did come around Jason saw a side of him the rest of the world didn't. Carl was an alcoholic and he liked to mix drugs in with his drinks the cocktails turned the beloved family man he played on TV into an angry sadist. Jason was ten when his father beat his mother to death, in front of him. Of course with all his fame and contacts no one dared accuse him. It wasn't long before Jason become the focus of Carl's rage. At 15 Jason watched his father pass out in a drunken stupor after a particularly bad beating. He drew up as much of daddy's heroine as he could into a syringe just like he had seen his father do countless times. Sliding the needle into the drunkards skin didn't even wake him up, but after the deed was done, he shook his dad awake. His fathers half open eye lids flared for a moment as his small son whispered into his ear. "Its time for you to die, dad."
Everyone's life is like a story. The problem is few people take the time to really understand their own story, much less bother to even read anyone else's.

    Name: Lilith Andrews

    Age: 24

    Gender: female

    Corporation: Brutus

Appearance: Lilith is a very sensual seductive woman. The first thing you would notice about her is her fire red hair, her emerald green eyes and her curves. She wears designer clothes that emphasis her curves, but are never particularly slutty. Lilith feels that only a woman without a natural beauty needs to degrade herself by dressing like she is for sale. She wears quite a bit of makeup to emphasis her eyes. Every little bit of her looks has been carefully thought about and the truth is without the makeup, the clothes and the bottled red of her hair people wouldn’t even recognize her and that is exactly why it works so well. When Lilith goes to work she wears a brown wig, blue/grey contact lenses, no makeup and ordinary clothes. She wears flat shoes that make her about 15 cm shorter than the public Lilith would be (who wears incredibly high heels) and she binds off her curves – which isn’t particularly comfortable – giving her an almost masculine figure. When she goes to work not a single guy would look at her twice.

Personality: Lilith is the kind of woman most people would have heard about, but very few would really know. Everybody knows her face and everybody has an opinion about her, but very few actually know her inside. She has more money than she could possibly spend and she is famous in the way that spoiled rich girls can be. She has been that way ever since she was a teenage girl and from the outside it would seem as though she never changes. This isn’t true however. When she was a teenager she loved her life. She loved causing shock in other people and the stories told about her were often true. She did spend a fortune on her looks and outfits. She did go to whatever club was hot and she was always on a friendship base with whoever was the owner. She did drink a lot and use drugs a lot. She was always the pretty face on the arm of some famous actor or some notoriously dangerous guy. Lilith always preferred the bad guys. She was said to break hearts just for the fun of it and had a reputation of being a man-eater. She had loved all those things and her behavior would suggest she still did, but it wasn’t true. Not that the fast life couldn’t amuse her still if she was in the mood for it, but these days it was more a front than anything else. A covered up that kept people at a distance where she wanted them. Even the guy who’s arm she was decorating usually didn’t know much about her or about her life. On the surface Lilith has a very playful shallow personality. She likes to joke around and dare people into doing things they didn’t mean to do. When it came down to it however Lilith was bright, calculative and a genius at deception.

Gear/Weapons: Lilith prefers not to get personally involved. She’s very skilled at using long distance weapons and she can kill most anybody from any distance. Her specialty however is killing in a way that doesn’t look like an assassination at all. She will spend quite some time studying the victims routine and those near him. She will then make it look like either a natural death or a death caused by someone directly involved in the victim’s life (like a jealous partner). It all depends on how much time she has got as a scheme like that takes quite a bit of preparation.

Backstory: Lilith grew up with money and nannies. Her dad was a supreme court judge who spend all of his time working and her mum was a social butterfly who spend her time organizing charity events. Lilith very rarely saw either one of them. She was raised by a series of nannies. In her early years there was only one nanny who looked after her like a mum would. Lilith was strongly attached to her, but she was fired by her mum when Lilith was twelve years old (after her mum had found out that Lilith’s dad was having an affair with the nanny). After that there was a long succession of one nanny after the other as Lilith made their lives a living hell. She felt no connection to any of them as she continued to miss her ‘mum’. Lilith got more and more out of control and soon discovered the clubbing life. She became the shallow sensual club girl who decorated the arm of one guy after the next. One of her boyfriends - Johnny - was the son of a wealthy banker and although that didn't make him a typical 'bad boy' he was definately bad anyway. He was abusive towards Lilith. One day when Johnny and Lilith were at his dad's house arguing - Johnny was beating her up - when they stumbled on a stranger in the house (It was john who had just killed Johnny's father, but the two of them didn't know that). For reasons unkown to Lilith he saved her from her boyfriends beating (and killed her boyfriend), but then turned around and looked like he would kill her too. She begged him not to and even though he seemed like such a cold man he didn't. Instead of killing her he took her with him and recruited her into the brutus corperation. He is still like a mentor to her today.

Name: Unknown ("Friends" call him John; short for John Doe)
    Age: 30
    Gender: Male
    Corporation: Brutus
Appearance: Caucasian. He was bald, but handsome, and his bright blue eyes glistened like a diamond when reflecting sunlight. He looked to be about 5'11, and in great shape; his rippling muscles making the scars on his ribs and chest more prominent, sometimes appearing almost fresh. But despite his physique, while wearing clothes he appears to be thin and docile, looking like someone who has never been in a fight. But those serious, piercing eyes told stories of horror. To give a description of the clothes he wears would be impossible, as his attire depends entirely upon the location he's in, and why he is there.
Personality: His personality is cold, and calculating; he doesn't care for socialization and has no interest in sexual relations; if you searched "Assassin" in the dictionary, you would likely find a picture of "John". However, not many get to see his "true personality.". He is a genius when it comes to acting, allowing himself to play any role he see's fit; if he needs to be a kind sweetheart to get what he needs, he will be. If the situation calls for an intimidating bad-ass who no one wants to mess with, he can do that to.
Gear/Weapons: He is considered the jack of all trades in the Brutus company, for he enjoyed dipping his fingers into every aspect of his work. Long range, up close, on a mountain, or in the middle of the sea, he will be there. Due to this he generally never used the same equipment repeatedly, but there were two things he "never left home without"; that being a pair of black gloves, and his trusty colt. But despite all these variables, there is one thing that is certain: He will get the job done, or he will die; There is no middle ground.
Backstory: "John" lived and worked in a secret underground sweat-shop, disguised by "Eddies Carwash", a small local buisiness that stood high above the illegal work site. He was deprived of nutrients as well as social interaction, nor was he payed for his efforts. His mother had died in this same sweat-shop, though he did not mourn. His soul was broken and his emotions were non-existent. He didn't care for anyone; he just worked. Once every several months a man would stand upon the balcony that over looked the many workers, but this man was different; he wore a fashionable suit, and the large burning cigar that always seemed to be in his mouth screamed money; as well as his many rings. For years "John" had looked for a way out, secretly, as he knew the punishment for such would be death; but he never found anything. Only a large steel door in the center of the balcony, watched at all times by two guards.
One day the fat man and his cigar came again, overlooking the progress. He let out a howl of laughter, but what he was saying could never be deciphered; until he took a fall. With a shriek the man plummeted, falling head first into the cement, likely causing instant death. Several bullets could be heard flying, and four small metal canisters were thrown across the room, erupting into a thick green smoke. It was not long before all was quiet, and nearly every person around him was now on the floor, motionless. His eyes were heavy, and his world was beginning to blur as the green toxin reached further into his lungs; but he pushed it away as he saw a figure of a tall man, standing before him. He couldn't make out any features, it was almost as if he was blending into the gas itself. His heart began to race and tears filled his eyes as he came to the realization "I don't want to die here." he gritted his teeth and swung into the air as hard as he could muster, but it was no use; it felt as though his hand had hit a cement wall, and his world went black.

He woke up in a plane, first class, in what seemed like an instant. He looked around gasping and locked on to the first thing he saw; a bald man holding a glass of brown liquid, smiling at him through shaded eyes. "Who are you?!" 'John' shouted in anger; or maybe fear. A moment of silence proceeded, and the man took another sip from his glass, his twisted smile ripping a hole through the confidence of "John".
    "You may call me John."

KnightPlutonian, Deafmute and Mistique, all is good.

Diatsu, no one knows who Brutus is and no one ever meets him. Change the last bit and PM me about it and we're set.

Awesome writing people, I'll post my character sketch soon and materialize the RPG thread from the aether, with a bit of framework for each of the Corporations to start it off.

When I wrote "brutus" I wasn't implying that he was the man himself. I believe you said that any brutus operatives on a mission will call themselves "Brutus". This is my way of telling the reader that the man who was on the plane was a brutus member.

Keep in mind that the only missions Brutus agents take are assassinations, thus an agent wouldn't take the name for a recruitment.

Rest of it is great though.

I made some minor changes to lilith's profile so that John (Diatsu's character) is the one that recruited her (rather than Johnny), so that there is a connection between the two of them.

What is your stance on taking on multiple characters. I think it would help flow if we add a few more characters into this mix.
