For the last 15 years I lived in Washington, DC, on Capitol Hill. For the last three of those years we held a block party on July 4. Police put up barricades, neighbors put sprinklers and kiddie pools in the street for the little one, tables were set out with food, and it was a generally festive occasion where neighbors could get to know each other better.
For my part, I lurked about with my Canon 30D (70-200 f2.8L lens -- a beauty) and zoomed in on the action. I love shooting kids and dogs, because they are spontaneous and unself-conscious. This doesn't qualify as art and hardly more than glorified snapshots. But I like the variety of unposed expressions and thought you might too.
I'll post thumbnails so as not to take up an acre of forum space. Click the thumbs for larger images. (I had 36 but discovered that 15 is the limit, so maybe I'll post more later.)
