What You Do When You Don't Want To Write

I'm sure at some point all of us have gone through a time where we just don't feel like writing. So, what do you do?

Do you force yourself to write anyway in hopes of breaking through that feeling?

Or do you just stop writing and wait until you want to again?

Personally, I just leave it be. In my mind, if I force myself to write when I don't have the motivation to, then my writing will suffer, and I'd be afraid of burning myself out. That's kind of the situation I'm in now. I'm passionate about my current project, but I'm just not in the mood to write. I tried to for a little while, but I wasn't enjoying it, so I'm just letting it sit for a few days so I can go back to it with a fresh mind.

I guess it also depends on if you have deadlines of something. But, no one is eagerly waiting for me to finish my book, so I have all the time in the world.

I stop writing and continually kick myself until I start again.

I force myself to, but its rare to find a day when I don't actually have the will to write.

I force myself to as well, at least until I hit my minimum number. If I can't bring myself to write on my main WIP, I work on my secondary WIP or my novella. I rarely have to go as far as the novella (which is why it has about 3K words over about three months) because the two main novels and editing the finished novel usually gives me SOMETHING I can push myself into working on.

Take my camera for a walk, paint, go in the garden or to the beach, study the wildlife - anything really as long it's a change of scenery or activity. I've also entered a couple of the WF challenges so I'm forced to work to a deadline.

I've been playing Elder Scrolls Skyrim, and Lord Of The Rings Online I shall be playing Elder Scrolls Online MMO, due out in a few days, so that is certainly going to take me away from writing and chatting on here for a while....
One Christmas was so much like another, in those years around the sea-town corner now and out of all sound except the distant speaking of the voices I sometimes hear a moment before sleep, that I can never remember whether it snowed for six days and six nights when I was twelve or whether it snowed for twelve days and twelve nights when I was six." I really want to get the Elder Scrolls MMO. But I probably won't simply because of the reasons you stated.

I have been having a rough time getting back into writing Side Worlds. I had too much time pass since I last did any serious writing on it. Anything that distracts me from thinking about it or writing more of it is a very bad thing right now.

This is basically what I do (though, with my own respective hobbies). My motivation for writing comes from life and experience, so I do things that I enjoy to give me more inspiration.
