    Help with MS word formatting

I'll get right to the point.

I am formatting my manuscript for publication and I have all my page size/margins sorted out, but I am having huge difficulty with the header.

    Here is an example:

    Chapter 1
    I am Legend

This is the story of MJ Preston, the man, the legend in his own mind.

Looking at the above example as a book, my issue lies with the fact that I do not want the header to appear on the first page of each chapter.

I have tried using the next page option, but I just can seem to keep it from being planted on all pages globally.

If there are any MS word gurus here I could sure use some advise.

    Thanks
    Mark

What is it you do not want to appear on the first page of the chapter. You say 'header', but surely you want your chapter number and name to appear. Is it the 'BOOK TITLE' you don't want?

Which version of Word are you using? There was a big change from 2003 to 2007, and then minor changes from 2007 to 2010. Tell me what version you are using and explain exactly how you want you chapters to start, and I'll try to guide you.

    Hey Garza.

It was the Title I didn't want displaying only on each main chapter page. After screwing around with it into the wee hours I managed to figure it using the (Break) next page feature.

I just finished up this morning finalizing the first proof of my book which should be in my hands in about two weeks. Provided the Canadian Postal workers go back to work.

    MJ,

It's simple, if I understand the question right. Go to View, select Headers and Footers, then select Page Setup from the header toolbar, select Layout and then check Different First Page. Then, at the end of each chapter, insert a page break.

Would delete post if I could, did not notice this was over a year ago.

He didn't say which Word he is using.
I have an older computer with Word for Windows ME, my new computer has Word 2010, my work computers Word 2007.
The older word is very different from 2007, and minor changes to 2010, but even the changes could make a difference in where to find something.
2007-VIEW has no Headers & Footers, H&F is in "INSERT", "Header footer Design" pops up when your in the mode, and this is where different first page is.
