    'Single marks are to be used for a first quotation, then double for a quotation within a quotation.'

    Actually, it varies. In the States, I believe it's the opposite way around.

    Snitty U.S. editors occasionally point that out. I ask if their copy editors are on strike. That usually shuts them up.
