characters crying

How do you feel about characters crying in a story?

I find that it's very effective to have a scene in a story where a strong, quiet, mysterious, or cold hearted character cries. It shows that they are real people with real emotions and though they seem to be stone statues they possess feelings just like everyone else. Any thoughts?
