Abe Lincoln's Thoughts Regarding Prosperity

Rate this Entry
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.

~Abraham Lincoln

You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich. And when has this ever been the case - other than freeing slaves? There are no rich being destroyed under the current U.S. administration’s policies.

You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong. (What, redundant already?)

You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift. You certainly can’t bring about prosperity by encouraging thrift, the GDP would tank.

    How times have changed!

You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down. I wonder what the father of the U.S. income tax, Abe Lincoln, who taxed the rich to pay for the Civil War, was referring too?

You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred. Valid point Abe. I will no longer spit on homeless people and yell at them to get an effing job as I attempt to run over their worthless asses with my Benz SLR McLaren Roadster.

You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence. No argument there, except that it would take plenty of character and courage to overcome such a thing. Question is, where in the constitution or any point since has the government been charged with building character and courage? Is this why weed is illegal (as it concerns us today) or the reason why people will no longer have the right to choose a health care policy that will let them die when they contract breast cancer because acne was their pre-existing condition.

You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they could and should do for themselves.
That’s right Mr. Long-Time-Ago President, 3% of the population should be ashamed of themselves, but the rest of those you speak of are today trapped between the ways of mankind and the fact that they were not born with the right stuff, and have mistakenly chose the wrong parents.

LOL! Blood made a wrong turn. This isn't the debate forum. Another thought, gratis:

Yep, that's what I keep telling all this folks who can't find employment, "it's your own fault."

    Oops! ...wrong turn again.

Blood, my husband has been unemployed for a long time now and the struggle to find employment has not come about because employers are expanding their enterprises...because they AREN'T. They see an ever-greater tax burden coming at them because the government thinks they have endless pockets. Again, you manage to look in the entirely wrong direction. Please continue this in the DEBATE THREAD if you must.

    Yep-- Abe Lincoln, Capitalist Swine!

It's all Abe's fault, people. And we're just as dumb as he is, for believing anything he said. Good riddance to yet another do-nothing American President. : \
