  1. Harm Monica

A few weeks ago in my drunken enlightened state of mind, I decided to go on amazon for a few items I've been putting off buying. Nothing crazy, just a handle for my 5 gal carboy and some sugar free Heinz ketchup (Don't judge me), but I needed to buy one more item to get free shipping. I thought long about what I need and couldn't come up with anything, so then I considered any items that I want.

It was at the moment between draining and filling my tumbler that I remembered that I've ...

  2. Pitchin' Ain't Easy: Musty Worts are Teeming with Life!

It's been an interesting week. I decided to make the most of the Victoria day long weekend and cash in 4 vacation days to get 9 consecutive days off. I used the opportunity to fully commit to Operation: Hoarder's Bane. I managed to get all the junk removed and recycled. All that's left is a final sort of things to donate and I'm home free. I actually feel more rested by getting all that work done than if I just lazed around all week. I'll file it under the humans are weird category of psychology. ...

  3. Operation: Hoarder's Bane

Mother nature herself has deemed my city unworthy of springs' warm embrace, and thus I steel myself for what must be done. I prepare for war. I must be ruthless and give no quarter, for none will be offered in kind. I may lose my life in the process, but I will stop at nothing to put to my hated foe to rout!

The operation composes of two objectives: Locate and secure all valuable assets and then purge the unworthy.

So, in other words, it's time for spring cleaning. I've ...
  4. Quit Your Wine-ing!

The fabled spring time has come at last. The sun no longer vanishes at 6pm, water has been discovered in it's liquid form, and there is an odd green species of flora forming on my lawn. The end of winter is neigh! Or so I thought, I swapped my tires over to All Season for Spring/Summer and we had a blizzard. I'm starting to think I'll have to pull a Canadian version of Breaking Bad just to afford enough to move somewhere warm

Speaking of meth brewing, I decided to rekindle my ...
  5. Grammar Nazis!

I've probably spent most my life resenting any and all grammar Nazis. I've always believed that the message delivered via writing was more important than the mechanics that drive them. A large part of this is due to English being my adopted language (My Hungarian is terrible). The frustrations were routed early in my English Second Language classes. When I was 6, I had to learn the language from scratch, and I never really grasped many of the basic components of good grammar. Basically, I put most ...
  6. The Cruelty of Time

Ever notice how time seems to go faster as you get older? When I was a kid, summer break felt like it lasted forever. Now, the seasons just fly by. It feels like January seems to keep edging closer to itself as the years roll on. A friend of mine pointed out an interesting observation. The longer we are alive, the smaller a portion of time is represented within the whole. For instance, two months for someone who is 10 years old is 1.67% of their total life (2 months / 120 months). Using the same ...

  7. Thought for Food

Woo-hoo! It's Friday at last! This marks my 5th blog of the week. It's been an interesting challenge to force myself to sit down and write, even if I am busy or uninspired. These blogs are more for me than you. I need to build up my writing muscles and get comfortable with sharing my ideas with the world. The former is easier than the latter. Generally, I tend to keep to myself and a only share with a select few close friends. As an added bonus, I'm writing in the first person, so it's a exercise ...
  8. Social Media Fasting

It's been about two weeks since I deleted my social media apps on my phone. I came to the realization that I am wasting a lot of my time. I'd be a hippocrate if I said I don't enjoy a broad selection of spicy memes. They're entertaining and I often used to share it with my friends that share my...unique...sense of humor. The downside is it acts as a buffer to delay me from dealing with issues in my daily life. It's like a less severe version of the phenomenon where you are overloaded with things ...
  9. Zen

I've noticed that the older I get, the more I appreciate the simpler things in life.

A stout coffee with breakfast, loosing myself in my thoughts over a crackling back yard fire, or just simply reading outside on a nice day with a gentle breeze, are all things I enjoy more now than when I was younger. I'm sure it's largely chalked up to the impatience of youth, but it's funny how fast it creeps up. One day you trade beer for scotch, and bam, soon thereafter you'll start making old ...
  10. The right to be an idiot

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times.

I'm a huge proponent of free speech. I believe anybody can say anything they want, and no one should censor opinions. Toxic and malicious intentions will never loose their potency via censorship. In fact, I'd argue it does the opposite.

A couple weekends ago, I was hanging out with my best friend. We've known each other for a couple decades. We had an interesting conversation on free speech. Where does the fine line ...
  11. Bloggy Blog

Well, this is a bit awkward. I'm a blog virgin. I'm not sure what content is expected, so I'll just wing it!

About a month, give or take, I decided that it's time to re-ignite my passion for writing. The first step was to clean out a junk filled spare room and set up a good creative space. I'm rocking a laptop that can run Youtube, this forum, and word, but I'm skeptical if it can run them all at the same time. It's perfect for a work computer. I get easily distracted, so isolation ...
