  1. [Airsoft] Green Machine

Jeez, I can't seem to stop disappearing. Work, travel, and the growth and increasing activity of my airsoft team have pretty much kept me away from just about everything I used to enjoy, including video games. I know, right?

Anyway, work's boring, and the traveling is work-related (I was away from home for three months straight last year and they tried to do it to me again at the beginning of this year), so that's not much better, though I did have a (company-provided) hotel on the ...

  2. [Ramblings] Hardly Working

I've been in Richmond, Virginia for the past week to help open a couple new stores, and I've still got a week left before I go home. The good news is that the people here seem to be excited that we finally made the jump into Virginia. I've visited a couple of the other stores that've already opened, and the customers I've talked to have had nothing but good things to say so far. It's a great feeling.

I've made fast friends with the guys I'm staying with (there are six of us all in ...

  3. [Rantings] This Guy

A few months ago, I was put back in the dairy department at work. Since then, I've been promoted so that I'm now responsible for dairy, which means that I get to deal one-on-one with the sales reps from the various companies that, well, employ sales reps for our store.

For the most part, merchandisers and reps stay out of the way unless they absolutely need something, and we try to look out for them as best we can (making sure they've got a cart to work their merchandise from, answering ...

  4. [Ramblings] Eclipse and Other Things

So, my part of the world was in the path of totality for the 2017 solar eclipse, and it was a beautiful, beautiful sight. I can honestly say that I understand now why religious significance was attached to these events. Everything went dark, it got really cold, and a shadow passed over the sun, looking much like a halo or an eye. Very ominous. Very cool.

With the eclipse came a swarm of eclipsophiles, of course, and it doesn't help that my area is starting school up again, so, on ...

  5. [Airsoft] Half Day 08/19/2017

I mentioned last time that the heat out here can be brutal, so the local field hosted a half day instead of a full day. Travis and I were the only members of Easy out there today, and we rolled green again. It's easier than trying to get people to recognize our tan kits for, well, tan kits.

The first round consisted of a tank escort--that's right, a tank escort. The field owner runs a go-cart that's kitted out to look like a small tank. It's got an air cannon that fires nerf balls ...

  6. [Airsoft] Blue Hole 08/12/2017

Easy made the trip down to Blue Hole for the skirmishes today. The field owner recently re-opened a brutal area called Patton Hill, a large, well, hill that's easily the highest point in the surrounding area, rising easily 120 feet above the rest of the AO. The sides of the hill are sheer and sort of tendril out, forming deep ravines, and the hill itself curves around a deep valley in the center. It's formidable terrain, and an errant ...

  7. [Ramblings] Comms Handbook

So, for the past three and a half hours, I've been re-writing the handbook I designed for our team's radio etiquette. The guys I sent it to tore it apart and pointed out the things that needed to be added. What I ended up with was something better-formatted and more concise than what I started with, so... mission accomplished, I guess.

I mean, don't get me wrong, it looks great. The title page has our big, shiny emblem on it and the formatting is all professional. I'm actually really ...

  8. [Airsoft] Skirmish Day

Easy Tactical fielded a couple of prospective members this weekend, both of them made the cut. I had to work during the morning, so I didn't get to see Colton play, but he comes highly recommended by one of the guys I'm grooming for a team leader position, and that's all I needed. I did get to roll with Lucky during the evening portion of the skirmish day, though, and he's definitely a keeper. He doesn't have a lot of equipment, but he works well with what he's got.

    The AO we were ...

  9. [Ramblings] Shrink Hero

A couple months back, I saved my company a looot of money when I caught a delivery of perishable goods (dairy, frozen food) that wasn't properly refrigerated. We'd been the first stop on the route, too. My managers decided to submit my name for a loss prevention award, and I was one of three associates chosen to receive it for the month of May. My store manager called me his "shrink hero," which, for those of you who aren't retail-oriented, "shrink" is the term we use for ...

  10. [Airsoft] Guns of Azerbaijan

Got home from an airsoft event called Guns of Azerbaijan yesterday afternoon. My team (Easy Tactical Solutions) hooked up with Iron Sledge Airsoft to form 1st Squad for the Black Dogs mercenary company led by a guy called Deuce. Our mission gave us 24 hours to insert into the AO, secure weapons and ammunition from an arms factory on the border between Russia and Azerbaijan, and get them to our buyer. A private military contractor called Graycell sent a company out to assist the Azerbaijan National ...

  11. [Ramblings] Haaaaa

Been awhile, maybe a year and a half since I last looked at this place. Glad to see everyone's still here, or at least that WF is still a thing. Not that I thought it wouldn't be.

Updates! I've been promoted twice at Publix since I was last active here, and I'm conducting training for new hires now. Sad state of affairs when I'm the most qualified individual to bring newbies into the fold, but there you have it, haha.

I've gotten back into airsoft a bit, not just as ...

  12. [Ramblings] One of These Days...

    Unfortunately, not today.

My first day off in three weeks, feels kind of strange, really. One of the great things about having two jobs is that I have plenty of money. One of the worst things about having plenty of money is that there's always stuff to spend it on. This past week, I finally got the Buick fixed (I think I mentioned this already, but I'm too lazy to go back and check, so...). It needed an ignition switch and a new battery. Then it needed new wiper blades, and now ...

  13. [Ramblings] Work and Other Things

Haha, just kidding. I don't have time for other things. Publix has seen fit to work me forty hours a week, sometimes more (46 hours this week, which equals overtime pay), and I've still got my route with Coca-Cola, so I haven't had the most free time lately. It's been a bit of a drag on my relationships, but I was able to get the Buick fixed and get a new battery in it. Turns out the damned thing needed a new ignition switch, and now it needs new tires... hooray. Just a list a mile long of ...

  14. [Ramblings] Family Ties

I prefer to think of myself as a man with a warm heart and a cold mind, if only because it sounds better than alternatives like "sociopath," et cetera. Though I make friends easy enough, I don't tend to form attachments, and, unless I'm particularly attached, I can generally let go without too much of a fuss. I don't always remember birthdays and holidays, and I have a tendency to fade out every now and again, but I always try to make time for people when they need me.

  15. [Ramblings] A Change in Fortunes

I'm not sure what I did, but whatever it was, I seemed to have done it right. She wants to see me again, or, at least, she says she does. We're going to go around and poke through some shops, maybe have lunch, spend some more time together and maybe get to know each other a little better... I just don't know when. Both of us are working around busy schedules, and that's all right, just calls for a bit of patience. As long as she wants me around, I've got all the time in the world.

  16. [Ramblings] No Expectations

    Welp.

I had dinner tonight with a lovely young lady, and got to know her a little better than I did. To be fair, we hadn't even spoken before I asked her out, but she's cute, she's interesting, and, all in all, she seems like a wonderful person. I'm not 100% sure whether she'll want to see me again, but that could just be me. Something to look forward to finding out, I suppose.

I don't really have any expectations for a relationship, and not expecting anything has been ...

  17. [Ramblings] Spirit of the Lion

It's a topsy turvy world. One moment, I'm chugging happily along, content to be a supporting character in the play of everyone else's lives... the next minute, I find that I've been handed the reins of my own and now I'm steering happily along, heading well outside my comfort zone. It's... a strange feeling, really.

I'm not sure what made me tell a store manager that he could buy my services for $15 an hour, but it resulted in an interview, which I'll be heading out for in about two ...

  18. [The Drain] Horse Thief

The Ysaryngas rose against a backdrop of stars, their jagged peaks brightly illuminated in the light of the full moon. Though Vyoria was hidden beneath a thick blanket of winter snow, the night was mild enough to travel. Two riders, weary from years of hurried travel, followed the road north. They were almost home.

There was some call for caution, as well. The riders had been told about the civil war which had broken out over the High King's decision to aid Ostheron in the Wars.
