  1. Sex, God, and a bunch of other stuff

So this rambling piece of reflections by a fictional character I am writing will be finish by the end of April. The character talks about everything from what is right and wrong to God to politics to eating pie to sex to love to how to make a cocktail, and how to drink your soda to well, you get it.

So, I'm pretty conservative, and not religious, but believe in the importance of it. Kind of in between religions right now. But the F word and reflections on sex, comparing an orgasm to ...

  2. I think it is going well

So I've developed the characters well through action. I burned, so to speak, all of my novel (one of them) past chapter five. I just felt it got shallow. Here I've managed to develop. I made, for example, one character a total jerk, when I meant to make him a rather good guy with flaws. I have done that. There is hostility now between him and the protagonist, but it will end, like such hostilities often do. But there is a constant one between he and one of the main characters. A hot girl throwing ...

  3. Alexander Pope is right

"For what I have published, I can only hope to be pardoned; but for what I have burned, I deserve to be praised." --Alexander Pope

I burned a novel, most of it, today. Trashed it. I kept the first four chapters. I am in one of those moods where I am really not confident about the work but feel the drive to go on. Not that this is a habitual lack of confidence. I go between vanity and self-judgment. That's good I suppose. I am reading a novel, which sold very well, called,

  4. Good concept but bad execution

So I am headed towards the end of the novel. And I need to flesh out the villain. I'll likely have to try and do that when I go back, but I did it in my present place for now. The concept of howtodo it was good, but it's badly written. Only a few paragraphs. Not even a thousand words. So it can be left for now, and I can move on. Let the story as a while flow. But I like to TRY and fix things before I continue. I've been reading the first page or two of self-published books on Amazon, and...well, ...

  5. Jane Austen: Let me buy you a drink! And maybe take your sister to....

So reading Jane Austen for class and, well, I said this in PM to someone:

Too Victorian and pretty. All the gentry superficiality. I know she takes the problem with that up in Emma, but still. For all the morality, God is never mentioned, and religion is sort of a social obligation. For me it's just Victorian/1950ist (those are sort of the same superficial eras for me) tediousness. I wish some people would get murdered, or at lest punched, and we'd have some makeout scenes,

  6. I don't know.....

There is this small dialogue to open a new minor character. And, I don't know. I am hoping it does not come off as artificial or fake. I'd post it on the forum, but I think it is best to let it go for now until I go back and edit later. Besides, part of it is a bit political. It's objective really, but the character is dishonest because he is a Republican. Typical accused Republican vices. Which he has, but read what you will of the idea that Republicans are all liars. Maybe he is a liar who just ...

  7. Paper finished and stuff

Well, yep. John Locke. The question:

In his Letter Concerning Toleration Locke says, "The commonwealth seems to me to be a society of men constituted only for the procuring, preserving, and advancing their own civil interests. Civil interests I call life, liberty, health, and indolency of body; and the possession of outward things, such as money, lands, houses, furniture, and the like."He also says this regarding ecclesiastical and civil authority, "The boundaries on

  8. Witless people on web forums (not here!)

Sorry, I have to double post to vent.

On another forum, the Orthodox Christian board, there is this post about a Protestant pastor saying women should not wax their..well you know. So it turned into more humor than serious theological discussion. I made my jokes, they got laughs until I used one saying "Hairy Potter." Funny enough. Then I say I wonder if Hermione waxed. Then I say that there was likely a spell for that sort of thing.

Well, the troll, snide member, ...

  9. My bad luck

So some of you may remember I had a virus and could not post here do to it. I finally just chose to reinstall Windows. Well, two weeks later my hard drive crashes. I call HP, they price it at $300. I say I might as well buy a new computer, they lower it to $180. Supposedly I am not supposed to say that, as the agent managed to get me a really good deal, though that could have been a sales tactic to keep me with HP for future purposes. But I will honor her by her request not to mention it to the ...

  10. Thank God for seziures...

So, there is the saying that that bad brings something good out of it. So, my seizures are acting up again, a little worse than usual, though still no convulsive ones. Actually how ever, though they have calmed down for now (the were worse a while ago), I keep having small difficult to write this, confused--I know what I want to say, but cannot think put what I cant to say and putting it there together.

But the episodes will go away soon enough, and the it is good, because then ...

  11. I love bacon, but hate Bacon (may be controversial)

So last week we read Descartes. I rather disliked him, but I really dislike Bacon. He has some very good things to say objectively. He notes some very good points. But I find him condescending. At least Descartes admitted his ignorance. Descartes comes of as sincere and relatively humble, but Bacon comes off as this arrogant jerk who dismisses the wisdom of the past for the knowledge of the present. Complete modernist. Basically he is a materialist. He does not like the abstract, like ethics and ...
  12. So, came on too strong? We'll see today/tomorrow

Well, the friend I may have come on too strong. I stupidly showed her the video with the ecstatic seizure episode, and the sonnet at the end was about her. Well, it may not have even been that obvious it was about her (her name was not mentioned), but I panicked and wrote a second email explaining, somewhat unclearly, I think, that it wasn't, though I could not bring myself to lie. I was circumspect, and may have not been circumspect enough. I am worried it all may come off as creepy or forward. ...

  13. Reading Aloud

So I am spending the weekend proofreading my novella, the first four chapters that is, which is what I have written so far. I am doing a chapter a day and am on Chapter 3 tonight. It helps to do so, as you see the errors more easily reading it out loud. I think I am satisfied with it on the whole, but wonder if it will will be picked up by an agent. It's a good story, I think, but I wonder if there is too much telling. The first two chapters seem a bit melodramatic, but that may be required. I am ...

  14. A bit upset

So I posted this on Facebook and tagged a friend:

I grant you as he said it is strange. He said this:

.this was bizarre...I think you need some concrete social interaction; maybe step outside of your books and head for a while?
    To which I replied:
bizarre yer [sic], for the better of for the worst. And as for the latter comment, about stepping out,

  15. I am in love! I am in love.

I am not sure if I am having some sort of ecstatic seizure, but if this is what they feel like, Dostoyevsky is right! I would give my whole life for this sensation! Love! Love! To not only love, but to love something so pure and love, and to want to give to that person, and be given back to in return. But not be given to in some selfish way, but a giving and receiving of on one single substance--one flesh, one, heart, one soul. I love her, I know not how or why. It started in class, the sound of ...

  16. I don't know! (langauge)

So reading Galileo's Dialogue of the Two New Sciences I am lost. It is my least favorite of all the assigned readings. Most of the questions could be bullshitted, but a couple are specific and I can't find the answer. The questions have the page number where the answer can be found, except the online version linked that one can read does not have page numbers. The questions I cannot answer are:

    1. Salviati establishes that the path traced by a projectile is parabolic, but Simplicio

  17. Hypergraphia and everything

So those who suffer temporal lobe epilepsy sometimes have a condition called hypergrahia. So I've been writing a lot lately. And neglected my studies. I need to go read a bit of Galileo's Dialogues Concerning the Two New Sciences , our assigned work for this week. I am skipping the assigned "Day Three" because there are no questions from it, and it is all Greek to me. A bunch of scientific stuff, which is over my head. It might be easier with a hard copy because you have to look at the ...

  18. So I wrote this story

So I wrote this story based on a dream. I cannot post it here because it is too graphic, bordering on the forbidden pornographic writing. Not that it is a sex story really, but it does involve that, or the facts leading up to it, including the "sheet talk" if you know what that means. Is that even a phrase? Well, it is now. I'm not even sure if I can morally justify it. I mean it's Epicurean in nature. I'm a half ass Christian and it's Lent! Really, can this thing be justified. I like ...

  19. Christmas Eve Reflection

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Glory be to the Father! And to the Son, ever begotten of His monarchy and fatherhood, begotten, not made! One in essence with the Father, God of God, Light of Light, True God of True God!

And to the Most Holy Theotokos, Most Immaculate and Ever Virgin, Bearer of God and His Mother, not of Christ alone, but of God Himself, though not in His Divine Nature, as the heretics maintain, but of His human nature. And He ...
