All of us writers need to be reminded that we are our worse critic. People can say our work sucks but when we believe it we form a rut and it takes our own willpower to overcome our shortcomings. I'm glad you're looking in your own direction (prompts) to climb out your hole.

Since I made that original whine/rant, I have purchased a book of 300 writing prompts. I think that should help some.

You aren't alone in your troubles. I am my own worst critic and a perfectionist. A little OCD, even with writing.

Some people would take the approach to this that if you're questioning yourself in such a manner, that in itself means you aren't. I disagree. When an actor gets the job, many times he or she will be overjoyed, followed by the harsh punch of cold reality and fear that you might not be good enough or mess up. It's just natural for most people to have doubt.

Now, it's just up to controlling it. Recently I started trying to change my schedule (get at least 8 hours of sleep for example), allowing myself a one hour nap later on in the day if needed. Junk food is weekends only. Video games are weekends only. School comes first, got to stay on the ball with that. Suddenly I find myself with more time to read and write.

Of course, your problem doesn't sound like finding the time to write. If I were you, maybe consider writing lyrics or poetry or short stories... maybe even this blogging. And treat these small victories as grand ones! Don't take them for granted. Do this all along as you perhaps work on a longer piece in the meantime and maybe this will help you. This trick has worked wonders for me so far.

I myself still have a ways to go, but I'm headed in the right direction, and at least I'm going. It might not be the speed or steady pace I desire, but that can still be achieved. Same for you.
