There's that old saying about a million monkeys and a million typewriters eventually producing a sonnet by Shakespeare. These evil creeps indiscriminately killing girls and folks out for a stroll are just the beginning. The people with that kind of pathological thought process want more pain, bloodshed and fear. Through sheer luck, and perseverance, they'll probably get it.
Here's the rub: Everyone is conditioned for what they are exposed to. For the last few years, The West has had to deal with murderous thugs killing a dozen or two innocents at a time (give or take). The police and officials, for the most part, have done a very good job tracking down the evil swine and restoring order. I will never say we have gotten used to it, but we are conditioned. We move on, in the knowledge that many of us will be traumatized and frightened, but life will go on for most.
Eventually... things will go their way. In a big way. WE have to be perfect at prevention. THEY can fail numerous times, until they succeed.
Their version of "success" might look like a number of nightmares. A radiological "dirty bomb" in a major city. A large scale chemical or biological attack. A cyber attack that shuts down information systems or an entire electrical grid. These animals are the bull dog that keeps charging the fence. If we don't keep them off the fence, they'll eventually break-through. And kill all the chickens.
So, what are you doing? Waiting? Hoping it will never happen?
I've been writing my "Ponder the Unthinkable" installments for quite a while now. I see hundreds of views, and few comments. I don't know how many of you "get it".
When "The Big One" happens, it will overwhelm emergency services. You will have to take care of yourself. Maybe for quite a while.
Don't get overwhelmed with the details. Do something. A case of water now, some first aid kits later. Keep at it.
It's not about fear. It's about common sense.
