Survival Stories Are The Best

I love survival stories. Real survival stories.

I love fight movies in general- whether it be individuals or war and such- but there's something about survival stories that really no other movie comes close to displaying. Sheer, potent, willpower. Not only that, but their lives are practical and instructive. They aren't flamboyant, unrealistic heroes that you can idolize, but never emulate. These are human beings in impossible or extremely trying circumstances that show you it's possible to overcome unbelievable odds.

I'm also a huge fan of resourcefulness. In some of these survival stories, you see that the survivors- often left to the wilds or the extremes of nature with very little in the way of immediately applicable survival gear- fashion their own means of survival. I'm not sure if it's brilliance or simply willful determination behind it, but it's just some of the most awesome little pieces of human gusto I've never seen.

Just to add a facet, skills help as well...I always
thought self defense skills should be mandatory
in grade school. This would even the playing
field as often crimes are against the untrained.
When ‘Return of the Jedi’ came out, I was so
impressed with the Princess jumping on the
speeder in the woods, I took motorcycle classes
to learn, cuz ya never know when you’ll
have to ride one.

I think it would be cool, but I’m not sure it would even the playing field. I don’t think the bullies are trained either. But even so, you wouldn’t be just teaching potential victims, you’d be teaching everyone- including those bullies. You might end up in a position not very far from where you started.

There is something to be said about a point that TuesdayEve is trying to get at above, but it's hard to get there because people start screeching "stop blaming the victim" while deliberately jumping in front of your moving car.

I will blame the victim where they are to blame, and I will blame the perpetrator where they are to blame. I don't know where people get this retarded idea that somehow by telling the victim (or POTENTIAL victims) to take some responsibility that that automatically translates to "Therefore I say that the criminal should not be charged."

Don't leave your brand new sportscar unlocked with the keys in the ignition in a back alley at nighttime in a bad part of Detroit or Chicago, or anywhere for that matter.

Criminals prey less on the untrained and prey more on the weak and stupid. There might be some cross-over there, but they aren't the same thing.

The whole "people are doing wrong because they haven't been taught not to" has got to be one of the most infantile and obnoxiously utopian arguments I've ever ran across. There are such things as circumstances. There are people who do things out of malevolence, which means they know exactly what they're doing and are doing it anyway. And there are people who commit crime neither out of malevolence OR ignorance.

If we all just had the ability to see the future then we wouldn't do crime! Ffs smh kms.

God, I'm sorry. I woke up on the wrong side of the bed this morning and now I'm taking this way off-topic.

Yeah, survival stories are cool.
