Late to the Bus...

I'm not sure why I like to sit down and cruise through Google Earth- satellite view...but I do.

And I was doing just that when I realized something pretty basic? Not sure if this one of those things you're supposed to know in...like...kindergarten...but I noticed all the earth's dry land seems to be squeezed into one side of the globe.

Just made me curious as to why. I imagined the land like the weight at the end of a swinging chain. As the earth cools it's also spinning around the Sun really fast. I wonder if the earth was always spinning or did it just start spinning at some point. Even so, maybe all the land being on one side is like all the people being swung to a side in the car as it's turning?

As it turns out... NASCAR is a microcosm of the birth of the planet.

At one point all the land was a single clump.

"Pangaea Pangaea or Pangea was a supercontinent that existed during the late Paleozoic and early Mesozoic eras. It assembled from earlier continental units approximately 335 million years ago, and it began to break apart about 175 million years ago. Wikipedia Did you know: Pangaea is the second-most-recent supercontinent (~0.335 (.299) –~0.173 billions of years ago). "

Currently the Atlantic is expanding and the Bering Strait is shrinking due to the movement of the tectonic plates.

"Plate tectonics Plate tectonics is a scientific theory describing the large-scale motion of seven large plates and the movements of a larger number of smaller plates of the Earth's lithosphere, since tectonic processes began on Earth between 3 and 3.5 billion years ago. Wikipedia"
