If You Don't Love Lists Then You are Probably S-Q-U-A-R-E

So a recent post here has reminded me of one of my great loves, and inspired me to write an [admittedly pointless] blog about it. What is this mystery conqueror of my affections?

Lists.

Yep. I love lists. Making them, reading them, having them presented to me in visual and/or animated format (God bless YouTube). I love it all. You know the clichéd image of a wealthy individual bathing in a swimming pool full of money? No thanks, not for me.

Oh, what’s that? There was a mistake and they accidentally filled the pool with millions of tiny lists on mundane, yet personally relatable topics? Here, have everything I own.

My favorite lists are the “Top/10/25/50/100” kind, always presented from last to first (what is the point if I already know the greatest thing in the world at initial glance?). When I was a kid my go-to’s were “Top 100 Guitarists of All-Time” and “Greatest Video Games.” I think I must have read dozens of each, and re-read every one of them. Why? Who the flip knows.

But now we come to the sad part, in which I reveal a dark truth:

I haven’t made a list in at least three months. Actually, I can check the exact date. One moment please…

Oh Heavens no, it can’t be. January 1, 2015 at 4:54 PM (EST). Over a year. It’s been more than a year since my last list—a Dynasty Warriors 3 Tier List. It’s okay. I can fix this. I’ll not give anyone any ammunition for calling me a poser.

Behold, created in the time between writing this sentence and the next, Gya’s “Top 5 Favorite Lists of All-Time” list:

5. WhatCulture’s “10 Most Criminally Underrated Alter Bridge Songs You Must Hear”
4. Rolling Stone’s “100 Greatest Guitarists of All-Time” (an old one that doesn’t seem to exist now)
3. My own “Favorite Dynasty Warriors 3 Characters” (so self-indulgent)
2. IGN’s “Top 25 PS2 Games”
1. Distractify’s “These 75 Iconic Photos Will Define the 21[SUP]st[/SUP] Century So Far”

And there it is. Enlightening, huh? I had more fun than you would likely believe probable in creating it. I don’t even agree with so much that is on those lists. That’s the awesome part. You don’t have to! The fun comes from… uh….

Well, I’m not really sure what makes lists fun, but they are! Probably science.

The questions is, do you use bullet-points, numbers, or dashes? Or perhaps you're the kind of guy who likes to keep his lists naked. :highly_amused:

But really though, thanks for reading and humoring me, escorial.
