Buy a Helmet

"Life sucks, buy a f-ing helmet!" Denis Leary

Another helpful PSA from your buddy, Winston.
Seriously, now more than ever, be ready for stuff to just 'go bad'. I've written extensively here in my Ponder the Unthinkable series regarding Survival and SHTF procedures. 2012 / Mayan apocalypse came and went, people moved on. But don't get complacent. Enjoy the good times, but be ready for the bad times. The next downturn / setback may be closer than you think.

I'm glad that FEMA and the brains in our government have upped the recommended family stockpile of food and water to two weeks. That's a good start. Store medical supplies, especially any specific medicines you need. Have some money, as in cash. Know what you will do when you can't get to a grocery store or hospital, because there is no gasoline. No need to fret about this stuff, but at least think about it, and have a plan. Do you have health insurance because you plan on breaking your leg? Of course not. Bad things happen. It's prudent to be prepared.

The last Recession was bad. This next one may not be as bad, or it may be worse. All I know is that too many people think that the party will last forever. It won't. And when the good times end, you wanna be the cat with a bottle of aspirin and a comfy sofa.
Hangovers suck. But you play, so you pay.

And it may not be the economy, I don't know. With the current Toddler In Chief, anything goes.
Humor an old pessimist. Just think about it. And do us all a favor by doing something ahead of time. Thanks.

There was an ad on the radio today about being planned for a disaster and how they store can help you with supplies. It was pretty remarkable- there are people out there getting prepared. I have to be prepared because I am a daycare, so I feel good about this preparation. I think, you just never know.

Funny, I wrote this a month ago. 108 views. Aside from a few folks like you, I'm sad thinking how many people will get caught unprepared.
Folks charged with looking after kids, we're more ready for anything. Comes with the territory. I worry about young students and old pensioners.
This is not a value judgment, but folks that are use to someone else taking care of them are especially vulnerable.
We'll have to do what we can. It would just be better (and safer) if more people opened their eyes and acted ahead of time.

It's about to get a lot worse before it gets better. Be ready to lend a hand.

I think I like the title "SHTF series" more than "Ponder the Unthinkable" :)

I agree except to say that you shouldn't trust that the government has a plan either. They always have a plan...until things go wrong...then you find out how screwed the communications between this and that were, how crappy the funding or supply really was, how people were just checking off boxes without thoroughly proofing things. etc. Basically, have your own plan ready for something to go wrong.

That being said...since when did recessions become acceptable, lol. You'd think it was winter the way people talk about it. If there's a recession it's because someone screwed up and acting like it's a natural occurrence sounds like a perfect way for the guilty to wipe their ledgers without paying a dime and without any responsibility.
