    #13 - (a Friday) thoughts outloud

It was a blizzard day. I got up early and made several deliveries, then worked a 6. I don't feel sick or anything, but I feel like this day ran me, not that I ran my day.

The only thing I look forward to is the meetings, and the time I feel inspired to think on things related to what's coming.

I had a customer blow up on me, complaining about the quantity, like I was ripping him off, ...

  2. Reviewers--Our Lifeblook (Part 2)

In case you haven’t read it, there is a part one article on this subject. I just needed to touch it up a bit and add some more basic information, including this time, what an author might try to avoid, or experience an author/reviewer confrontation.
Just as a recap, and as I noted before, reviewers are PEOPLE on the end of your submission email. Personalize your subs to each individual, follow the guidelines precisely, check out their “About” section and read some of their reviews. ...
  3. Fiesta

For an example of the kind of music behind this song (Garifuna from Livingston, Guatemala), you can see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?time_c...&v=YrwFYq6Bl3k

    [Chorus](keep repeating many times)
Fiesta! Fiesta! Come to the fiesta, baby!

    And bring your heart!

Repeat many times: Everybody dancing, everybody singing
    (Band: That's what we do!)

    Hey! Hey! Hey! Hey!
    Sure, why not? Let’s

I had a vision. Not like an actual vision, like I 'saw it' or something, but more like I understood a 'bigger picture', the bigger picture.

We keep talking about the fairness and the justice were working towards; the equality- but I think I saw the equity ( I'll have to go over this- edit, thesaurus, define), or lack of equity as it is, right now.

What I mean is that I saw the actual level of people, mankind, all of them, ...

  6. A Dead Wire

I know some of you have strong opinions regarding the place of electric bikes in the future of motorcycling (*cough Plasticweld cough*). But they are here. And in my opinion, here to stay.
Granted, these initial models leave a lot to be desired, particularly in the range department. The best models only get about 100 to 150 combined city / highway miles between charges. But that deficiency isn't a problem for folks looking for a hassle-free commuter. I used to ride 40 miles a day, and ...

So, I'm working on my hurricane poems. Yes, I know it doesn't look like I am, but I am. grrr Really hard to take the steps back (or should I say steps forward) and get INTO the scene, not be the observer. For me, it has always been easier that way. Perhaps I'm more a writer than I thought. So this is what came out of my frustration.

    Hands poised over the keyboard,
    tapping letters, forming words,

I got in a fight. Actually, I got beat up. It was three on one.

I was on the phone with a friend. Some guys overheard what I was talking about. They flat out asked what I was up to.

I was putting out a some papers at this coffee shop. We'd had them printed.
"This is you?" one guy said. I forgot I'd been there before like a week before.

Anarchists, they claimed...they started calling me names: "Totalitarian". ...

  9. The Science of Motorcycle Maintenance

Screw Rob Pirsig and his stupid book. There is no "art" to working on a motorcycle. And Zen on your own time.

There was no art to the way my bike leaned on it's side stand. It was balanced improperly, and on uneven ground it never sat stable. I could have meditated on the steady-state of the Universe, and come to the acceptance of my crappy kick-stand. Nope. Apologies to my Hawaiian relatives: I'm makin' it mo betta.

Honda made a good bike, but it ...
  10. A Hospital appointment...

Yesterday was the day of a Hospital appointment. I'd managed to keep that from my wife but would I be able to have a day out without her wondering, or commenting on such an event. She would never ask outright where I'd been or why I'd been out so long, being as that I was on a week off work and therefore rarely surfaced before lunchtime, I knew that but if I hadn't said something, before hand, it would have been hanging there, the elephant in the room, long story, and so, a few days prior to my ...

I don't know but I think she's some kind of attorney.
    I mean "E" of course.

She's very secretive, and she basically told me I ask too many questions. I guess the less I know the better just in case I get arrested or something.

Speaking of which, I'm going to have to move again. The neighbor's are getting suspicious- as they do- wondering about all the traffic.

Sometimes I think about how I could do it differently- ...

  13. Sweet Dreams are made of, What!!

So, one great aspect of life that we all as a species get to enjoy together is not the physical world, that we can touch and experience first hand but the other world, that we can only see glimpses of when our eyes are closed and our brains are busy playing with the darken canvas before it, I am of course referring to dreams.

Sadly, we do not remember all of our dreams, though maybe one day, we'll be able to tap into that part of the subconscious and watch our dreams on a big screen ...

  14. Back to School, '19-'20

Well, it's that time of year that those of us with school-age kids love to hate. We love it because the rug-rats get outta our hair and into someone else's. We hate it because it's time to buy stuff.

In today's society, we're buying things for our kids that previous generation would never have thought of. Hand cleaner? Christ. That's what sinks were for.

But here's a recent addition: Backpack armour. With all these mass shootings, many people are considering up-armoring ...

  15. Personal Libraries

We are all fellow writers here! we love to put pen to paper and create a symphony of words to create a story. But one thing that has been fascinating me is not the stories we share and intend to publish. the the ones we don't or at least not at this time, the ones that be come part of our personal libraries, never to see the light of day.

According to my writers journal I have approximately 40 World Stories and about 8 non-world stories, World is in regards to the world where most ...

    Another meeting.

I swear, they must try to find the dumpiest, dirtiest places. The rent must be cheap ( if they're paying rent). I can't say where it was, but let's just say that I wouldn't want to be there after a certain hour. The time of the meeting was bad enough. We do these things at night because some people have day jobs- 'covers' they call them- and the rest went along, though She -'E' had argued about it one time.

  18. The Love Of A Friend

    The love of a friend
    Is worth more than money
    The love of a friend
    Is sweeter than honey
You’ll never get it from anyone else
In your family or in your love
Because a friend's love is special
    To you from your friend

When all the others are gone
All your lovers are in love with others
    Whom have you got?
Look around, you’ve got your friends

    Because [Chorus]

  19. Enough / Overkill

Few human habits irritate me more than the tendency for people to spread "Do Something!" disease.
I'm a minimalist, fatalistic, Darwinistic, cold-blooded SOB. That said, I like a good idea as much as anyone else. As a matter of fact, I LOVE good ideas. I also like Unicorns, guilt-free ice cream and honest politicians.
Yes, good ideas are that rare. But that doesn't stop mobs of idiots from foisting dumb, ineffective ideas on the public, and pretending that they are ...

  21. (Insert Catchy Blog Title Here)... and some vulgarity follows

Mega rant: I'm feeling angry, sad, sardonic and fearful.

Does a fish know it's wet? Does the fish realize it's filtering it's own waste, and all of the other fish's waste through it's gills? Of course not. It's just a fish.
Does the average person realize the crap that they "swim" through? No. And if they do get a whiff, they just know it's the other fish's effluent, not their own.

    Reviewers—Our Lifeblood.

After having sent out and received (cold) over 1,370 personalized review requests, I think I’m qualified to depart a little information on the topic of Book Review Requests. I’ll start the salvo off with a personal letter from a reviewer who happened to discuss some problem areas wherein authors were disrespectful and/or intimidating. I have her permission to post this material. Below her letter is my reaction and thoughts.

    (Vent/Rant Warning)

It's been a while since I've felt this exhausted. I feel like I've been caught in a never ending grind, devoid of hope of a better tomorrow any time soon. While I was in college, I was brimming with passion and desire. I was keen to soak up all the knowledge I could to break into a highly sought after field with a very high paying salary. I could endure the sleepless nights, the perpetual destitution, and the stress of the provincial examinations for my 4th and 3rd ...
