  1. Banned

Banned from writingforums.org for posting some copyrighted shit without attribution. Never mind that I added attribution immediately when that was brought to my attention, or that the author in question was in the fucking thread.

Every one of these websites is a fucking joke. I left here because no one actually looks at anything; when you do get a response, it's some form letter shit basically telling you, "git gud, bra," and it looks as though I'll be leaving there because ...

  2. Hollywood Heroes(?)

There's this thing going around in which people who have been scandalized or some such years and years ago are being lauded as heroes and champions of social justice.

Then I saw something that sort of made me want to throw up. It was also actually intriguing...

Here, you have what appears to have been prior knowledge to a host of sickening things in Hollywood. By now, it might be well known that Seth Macfarlane had ...

  3. Well, Fudge :(

I woke up...I, unfortunately, was preparing to go to work...

I sat at my computer to jot down a quick note I had for my story, and...

I couldn't find it. I looked in documents...I looked in One Drive...I looked in the 'Search' function... nothing.

I did this for about a half hour. At some point, somehow, I seem to have deleted all the notes I had on my story. All...six hundred and fifty pages...of ten-font notes...gone...in an instant.

    At first ...

I went to new project today. We don't have it yet, but we might get it.

The other contractor bailed. That happens a lot. They get the project because they give a lower price. Sometimes that price is below cost. They get to a point where the job is upside down, and then they bail.

That's what they said happened here. It's s hillside house; a remodel. The original house, they had excavated a step in the hillside. The new plans called for a retaining wall to

  5. Echo Chamber

First, get your news and information from multiple sources. With different ideological slants. None of them will be correct, but they paint a more accurate picture than 1 or 2 alone would.

I think we can all agree that we hate scumbags that prey on women? Agreement, no? Then why in the hell do I have to choke back vomit every time I turn on the news? I was working out yesterday, and flipped between the news channels. Both were talking about Roy Moore and Al Franken. The difference ...

  6. The Real Problem?

This idea started with religion, but I think it branches out to a number of other things as well.

At first I wondered if there was any difference between religion and politics. On the surface, both seem to be ways of living, but this wasn't true. Distilled down to the heart of it, politics is about mediation between a number of parties. Religion is a structured belief system shared amongst a people. There's definitely a large area where these two cohabitate, but they aren't the same. ...

  8. The Way of Walking Alone (or The Way of Self-Reliance)

Just finished reading The Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi, translated by William Scott Wilson. Included in it were 21 precepts that Musashi wrote only days before his death; they take up only two pages in the ~100 page book. At first I wondered why they were included, until I quickly realized that the precepts are the irreducible, atomized principles of the "Way" which are further expanded upon by Musashi in this work.

These precepts were called The Way of Walking Alone ...

  9. Who Would Burn A Real Witch?

Would you just...burn a witch if you discovered one?

For me, they’d have to have done something pretty terrible to me or really terrible to society. And while killing a loved one of my own might make me do it, I don’t think the witch having killed someone else would make me burn them. I mean...you’re staring at a wonder that shatters our conventional understanding of nature. It’s not like you have to be friends, but at the very least I’d have some questions.

    And I think ...

  10. Multiculturalism to Monoculturalism

Long story short, I think the ironic thing about multiculturalism is that it will eventually and inevitably end in a world monoculture. Multiculturalism is always the first step. Take Europe. Even a place as small as ancient Britain had a diversity of cultures within it. It's not really a monoculture now. It's geopolitically unified, as in people are brought under one administration with similar laws and there are general customs that synch, but they aren't a true monoculture. They just lie within ...

  11. JFK Files Released

And I feel depressed because I'm wondering if I'm crazy, or people are just really stupid.

Exactly why are we supposed to believe that the government has released anything truthful- especially when it took them decades to reveal information about the assassination of a US President? They had 9/11 figured out before lunch, it seemed, but the President? Give us a minute.

I'm living in a time where I'm supposed to believe in really shady "celebrity snitches" like ...

We moved up here to "Podunkville" shortly after our first child was born. We wanted to be in a place where our kids would have a healthy environment to grow and develop.
That was 16 years ago. In retrospect, we made a good choice. A very good one.

This town is boring, at least on the surface. But there are plenty of things to do. Many things that are actually good for kids.

  13. Timing

It was last Saturday and I was running late for an important date. My "one-month" with Emily.

I had told her I'd pick her up at 5:15. That's what time it was as I sped down the freeway, keeping pace with the rush-hour traffic in the cool, calm rain. At a curve in the freeway the trees stretched their shadows across the road while the sun slid slowly to rest, its rays shining through the canopy in fiery hues of autumn. I drove onward with the grey clouds.

  15. Benefit at the Echo-11/5/17

So, I went to a show last night. It was a benefit for one of the band-members-he'd been in a car accident or something. It was a 'retro'-show, a couple of bands from the seventies, one guy in another from the '80s. And one contemporary, happening 'now' band.

There were some youngsters in the crowd, and a lot of older people; some fogies from that era. I consider myself a fogie, thank you,

  16. The Universes

Seems like everyone is making “universes”, tying in previous writings or projects into a connected network. I’m iffy on it because inevitably you start getting things like what “The Mummy” tried to do- making a universe with a bad story simply to rake up on the newest hollywood trend. I guess some of the successes- who also have pretty stupid storylines when you look at it (Marvel...)- figured out how to cash in on that childhood awesomeness that is pitting your favorite superheroes against or with ...

Grower street exit is home to the homeless, a bit of old Hollywood as I remember it circa the seventies, drugs and transvestite hookers, people bugging for a dime, and why I keep my eyes front like it's a city where no one makes eye contact. But this is today...

It's "projects day", so I drove my old pick-up to the Big Box home improvement store. I hate that place. I like the local small hardware store. But my daughter got a job with those big guys. I'm duty bound to support my girl, and her Faustian deal.
With my three new smoke detectors and a tarp, I headed home. There was a lot of traffic, so I used an alternate route.

The bed lifted slightly from the floor. Terrified Elise ducked under her patchwork quilt, shivering in the midnight moonlight.

What was that? She asked herself as her mind conjured images of zombies and murderous ghosts.

Shaking from head to toe she carefully peeped her eyes out and watched shadows dance across her white walls. One poster in particular caught her attention, keep calm and carry on, it proclaimed with three innocent ginger kittens frolicking. ...
