  1. terry pratchett competition

Does anyone have an opinion on the publishing contract offered as the prize in the transworld competition? It is twenty thousand pounds against royalties and they want all rights.
  2. Romance and best friends

Two things to talk about, bear with me I may ramble or seek pity, blame the season. IT'S ALL CHRISTMAS' FUALT.

Being that it is very nearly christmas and so many of my friends are inconsiderately pairing off, I have been suffering
(more than normally) from the envy of those in successful relationships. My history of romantic relations; to fill you in, has never included one of these fabled 'successful partnerships'.

Now this creates a issue, I like building ...

  3. My First Blogged Thought

One of the reasons I avoided Facebook for so long was the worry that I'd start recording every pointless thought I could remember, until I only started thinking in pointless thoughts.

But, I feel I should get involved here. It seems there are other ways to get my 'two cents' (I prefer pennies...) across on this Forum. Whether anything I post will be interesting or as dull-witted and slack-jawed as my forum posts remains to be seen, but I will use this as a word of warning: it may ...

  4. Back to normalcy...

Life is returning to normalcy once more. With a job secured and a trip back home planned, it looks like I'll be having at least 6 months of life with time on my hands.

There have been a whole host of things that I've been itching to write, mostly non fiction articles about all sorts of things. Now I finally get to sit down and write them out.

So yes, life is going back to normalcy for now. But then again, in these past 3 years or so, normalcy hasn't been the norm. ...

  6. To grammar, its supporters and its continued efforts to improve me

Anyone who has read one of my posts is likely to be aware that at the very least myself and Grammar are seeing other people.

dreadful as it may sound I have never been one to pay too much attention to grammar. If I find that a piece I'm reading doesn't flow naturally I'm far more likely to try and read it in a different way than try to figure through the grammatical changes that I'm making mentally to help the writing bundle along on its happy way.

    happily however ...

  7. The Dark InSpectre, Episode 18

Episode 18 of The Dark InSpectre is now online, in which our hero does a little undercover work to find a tel hotspot, only to find himself in yet another sticky situation.

    Here’s an excerpt:
I frowned. I could badge my way in, but then the whole place beyond that door would clear out in about five minutes. I felt my mood start to sour but tried to stay nice. With an effort, I put a smile on my face. Maybe I had to say the magic word? “Can I please go in? I’m here to see the ...

  8. Not my best description, but I'm stuck on what to call this girl.

    Bea or Kadin?

She is rather pretty, with dark woodland hair that cascades haphazardly down her back and eyes that are such a dark green that they are almost brown. There is fierceness in her dark eyes and the way she holds herself she dresses delicately with a hint of tom boy. She has a sweet caring personality but will stand up for herself and is not shy. She says exactly what she thinks despite her low status it gets her in trouble but she’s feisty enough to get herself out of ...

  9. I Refuse To Die..next chapter

They approached me like ravenous beasts with purpose; a scruffy little man in a yellow tee shirt and dirty blue jeans and a burly built woman with a tattoo of a hundred dollar bill on the exposed part of her chest, I think it’s a woman, I can’t be sure. Each carried a crowbar in their right hand, a third person; an unshaven awful looking man was dressed like a banker, in a sharp black suit, clean dress shoes, carrying a matching briefcase. Without as much as a whisper, those two swung their

  11. The Dark InSpectre, Episode 17

Episode 17 of The Dark InSpectre is now online, in which our hero gets a blast from the past with a call from an old friend.

    Here's an excerpt:
Hank lived in an area known as Little Telville where Claire and I’d grown up. We were among the few who got out. “Oh, you know, not much changes around here.” He heaved a sigh. “The water’s still filled with mind-control substances aimed at subverting us tels. 12. Blech

Blech, sorry about the recent absence, not that I was probably missed, but I have been busy. Between classes, and training for my promotion at work I have had zero time to do anything. So, this is my unofficial return, though given the coming holidays it is likely that I will not be able to make regular appearances. I will do my best, however.

  13. Liquid Story-bonics

Some writers love it. Others say it's overkill. Black Obelisk says the key to it is choice.

I believe all those things are true. Liquid Story Binder XE is, quite simply, the sh*t. There are drawbacks, though. I admit it was a complex little piece of software -- at first. I didn't understand its file system. I didn't even know where it put my books after it claimed to save them. I knew immediately it wasn't like any other program I'd ever used because a) it's gorgeous, b) ...

The size and rate of spread, of the cancer in your head is what will determine how long you will be around for. In the mean time, why don’t you have some ice cream with me, it’s the least I can offer you, under the grim circumstance. The sun will be setting soon and the others will be coming for you, so please hurry up ...

Episode 16 of The Dark InSpectre is now online, in which our hero lets his officers know who’s in charge of the investigation, in no uncertain terms.

    Here’s an excerpt:
“I find out word’s leaked out, you’re off the team, and…” I paused for effect then continued after they started looking nervous. “I let my boss know you fouled up my case.”

isclaimer: In almost every piece of writing I let loose from the brain that needs exercise and probably if undoubtedly will not edit any of it unless I believe it necessary...plus I'm just bad at it. Run on sentences and horribly obvious grammatical errors are your destiny if you wish to proceed. sorry for the drag of a beginning. If you wish to continue thanks!

You've missed so much, and there's still so much for you to miss.
You should have been here when I left primary school, you should have been here when I had that crisis three years ago to tell me what to do. You should have been here when I turned 16, you should have seen me when I won that thing that time. You should have held me when that boy broke my heart, you should have seen my smile when I found out what love really is. I should be able to have long conversations about him with you, ...

  20. An Unbroken Connection - Prologue

by , October 31st, 2010 at 04:29 AM (An Unbroken Connection - Prologue)
    Prologue
Bright lights. Sirens. The repetitive sound of tearing metal and shattering glass. The screams of hundreds of dying people echoing.

She was in absolute agony. Broken glass stabbed at her back like quills on a porcupine.

She wanted to move; to escape the pressure on top of her, the crushing weight that was holding her down.

The scene played over and over in her mind. So tired. Her bones felt like mush inside her skin. She began to feel

  22. Second drafts

second drafts which I promise, and in most cases am yet to provide are very important to us all.

unfortunately the task never seems to be one I can look forward too (even with the brilliant critiques received here) as it always seems a little like looking over the dead body of a friend so that you can comment that his nose was always a bit off centre, well maybe not that heartless but I'm sure most of you will know what I mean.

  23. NaNoWriMo on the rise!

Since the inevitable NaNoWriMo is in two days, I decide to post about the creation of mine without giving to much away. My admiration of the stories of Jules Verne has been a inspiration for me years. I admire how it is Science Fiction but a different kind of story. I would call them Fantastic Journeys. By "fantastic" i don't mean magical but unreal or the impossibility of the events to occur, well not entirely false. 20,000 Leagues under the sea predate the advent of the submarine. Journey ...

  25. Abe Lincoln's Thoughts Regarding Prosperity

by , October 25th, 2010 at 09:58 PM (What the Fox Says)
You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.
You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.
You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.
You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.
You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.
You cannot build character and courage by taking away people's initiative and independence.
You cannot help people permanently by doing for them, what they
